Palampur is a hill station and a municipal council in the Kangra Valley in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is the tea capital of northwest India, surrounded by pine forests and flanked by the Dhauladhar ranges. The town derives its name from the local word palum, meaning lots of water. There are numerous streams flowing from the mountains to the plains from Palampur. The combination of greenery and water gives Palampur a distinctive look.

Baijnath temple is an extremely famous and having most wonderful architecture. This is one of the most prominent Shiva temple and has an aura to it which one rarely finds elsewhere. The legend says that it was here Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva and pleased him with his penance. The temple was built in the 13th century. The long inscriptions engraved in the porch of the temple show that the Lord Shiva existed here even before the temple was built.
The architecture of the temple, the statues in the temple walls and the surroundings are extremely unique and beautiful. We were lucky to get a chance to worship the Lord and see the surroundings. From the temple one gets a wonderful view of the snow clad Dhauladhar range.
It is wonderful and a unique experience to here which one will cherish throughout life.

the kids would love this place and during the monsoons the river flowing alongside adds to the charm of this scenic place

Billing Valley is based in 70 Km from McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, Himachal and Bir - Billing at 30 Km far from Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.
We did this as a day hike, overnight camping, and then paraglide down combination. I would not recommend it.
It started with a very rough drive up where even my husband, who isn't scared of much, was terrified of flying over the edge of cliffs as we sped up a super narrow road into oncoming traffic.
From there, we did a short day hike on a very well maintained trail that we certainly did not need guides for. The provided lunch was also disappointing.
After the hike, we basically car camped on a hill, with some nice views, but with a lot of other people, families, and maybe schools driving up and making a lot of noise.
The next morning, we met new guides to paraglide down the mountain. I specifically requested a "smooth ride" and even after confirming, my guide took us on a spinning route that caused me to nearly puke. Immediately when we landed, he quickly walked away, likely knowing that I was not happy with his adventure attempts.
Do not go with this company!

Grade: Moderate McLeod Ganj to Triund 2800 mtrs, 9 kms gradual trek. The trek offer panoramic views Bhagsu village, McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala valley and distant views of Shivalik hills and plains of Kangra valley. The trek is moderate nature. Triund is a large land of green grass and pasture like. One can see the mighty Dhauladhar ranges just above the eyes. This is the base camp and climatization point for trekkers climbing the Inderahara point in the Mt. Dhauladhar.
Beautiful short trek.. amazing view.. do go till d top... It's so relaxing... We camped at night there... Millions of stars over your head with pin drop silence n snow clad Mountains as a backdrop.. it's a must go for people who love to trek...

This is a well organised, thoughtfully laid out museum which gives any visitor the Dharamsala an insight into the history of Chinese repression of the Tibetan people and the story of the exiles here and in other parts of the world. The captions are in English but it would be good if they were in Chinese as well!
