The oldest and the third largest museum in Czechia. Do not miss the historic main Exhibition building (Vystavni budova) in Opava bulit in the neo-renaissance style which you find in the park Sady U Muzea. There are not only the permanent Exhibitions of the natural and social history of the Czech Silesia (formerly Austrian Silesia), but also temporary Exhibitions which alternate throughout the year and reflect e.g. interesting anniversaries. Especially children will appreciate all interactive parts. Lovers of literature will appreciate further Exhibitions and actions in the building of Petr Bezruč's memorial, located in Ostrožná street. The other Exhibitions are located out of the city and each of them is worth for a several hours visit. The arboretum and botanical garden in Nový Dvůr is 12 km away from the city center, the National memorial of the WW2 in Hrabyně then 14 km, the Area of Czechoslovak military fortifications in Hlučín-Darkovičky 27 km and the Petr Bezruč's Cottage in Ostravice even 69 km away. Please note that the address given here in Tripadvisor as Nádražní okruh 31 is just the address of the directorate of museums and no Exhibitions are there.

During Christmas, it usually happens you are allowed to enter the building without even paying any fee. The employees usually gather and create a very interesting program for locals and tourists interested in the building and town history.
The building itself is quite old, but has been renovated in the past. There is an option to visit the tower, but you have to check up that first. It is located in the heart of the city as it serves as city hall. Right in front of tower Hlaska is a theatre which is worth visiting too.
Unfortunately, all the communication here is expected here in Czech, so you'd better get a local with english/your language skills to help you ;)

This park is very nice in every season. There are three birds at the top of the little hill and they move their heads and in the dark their eyes are little lights, under this little hill there is a small playground for children and those young at heart ;-). Very nice place, highly recommend visiting when in Opava!

On a driving circuit out of Brno through Olomouc, this structure is massive an sits in the heart of Opava. Frustrated that the doors were locked, I did a circuit walk around the building, finding one chapel visible through a gate.
Perhaps they should consider installing a gate once inside at the back, so visitors can appreciate the the church and have an opportunity to pray.

Representative building from 1911, originally the Austro-Hungarian Bank, recently renovated and used for many purposes. You can find here the exhibition of the Opava city history as well as art Exhibitions and various thematic Exhibitions. Last time we visited an exhibition of table games where many children and their parents (and not only them) could play all the games in person. On the ground, there is among others the Hall of burgomasters (city mayors) where you see the painted portraits of burgomasters and city mayors of Opava from the 18th century to the present. Part of the exhibition space on the 1st floor is also the original vault room. Note its massive vault door! During the day you may visit the café in the ground which has also a beautiful Terrace facing the park with a children's corner. The Art Club is located in the basement. It also runs a cinema screening.

Well renovated Cathedral, which was deeply damaged in the WW2. To enter use the small door on the right wing.

Smart choice for saving visitors. Easy access by car, bike or public bus (#213 or 214). Small sand beach and then mostly grassy banks. The water is almost always clean enough. The lake was created by flooding the former gypsum quarry. Small pizzeria nearby and limited number of public toilets. Be prepared that other people bring their dogs there, not kept on leash. Lack of bins for waste. There is no life guard service, swimming is always at your risk. On the northern bank there is also a disc golf course with free access for public. In some hot days in May or September it is probably the only occasion in the city for an outdoor swimming. During the winter local people often go here to watch birds, try cross-country skiing or just feeding swans.

It is the largest city park in Opava, you can reach it by bike on the cycloroute alongside the river or by public city bus # 217 and 218 or by car for which there is a free parking place in front of the football stadium on the St. Trinity Square (Namesti sv. Trojice). In the park there are lots of routs especially for in-line skating and jogging, then Playgrounds for younger as well as older children, work-out training grounds, skateboarding area, as well as lots of benches for tired visitors. At the edge of this city park you can find also the City Football Stadium, the very nice and stylish City Swimming Pool with some water attractions, the Minigolf playground, the baskeball arena and the Hotel Opava. There is a very nice environment of >100-years old trees and kept lawns. So it is suitable for parents with the smallest children, teenagers, ..., seniors. Even if you are sporty at all, it is worth to make just a walk here. What could be improved: if you need to visit toilets, you have chance only in the restaurants nearby the football stadium or in the basketball arena. Also it is smart to take your own drinks and snacks, there is only one kiosk nearby the football stadium.
