Along with plenty of wildlife, a cliff known as World's End is a top attraction at this park.
Horton Plains National Park is a best place in Sri Lanka for camping. There are 3 camping sites and we have to pre-book a site at the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka. I prefer site near chimnee pool. All three sites have sanitary facilities. Can not drive vehicles to sites. All sites are located about 600m from Hotron Plains visitor center. According to the rules of Wildlife Department we were not allowed to make fire at night. We have to bring portable stoves for cooking. Making meats (BBQ) also not allowed.

Like most waters falls in Sri-Lanka ,this water fall too is spectacular, situated on the way to worlds end.
This water fall has been named after Sir Samuel Baker, who was a famous explorer.
Lots of Rhododendron trees can be seen in the surrounding area, which makes this area picturesque.

Top Of Kirigalpotta ,The Views Are Stunning. Kirigalpotta Mountain is the second Highest mountain in Sri Lanka. Especially endemic birds, endemic plants, endemic animals are present in the Mountain. A must do in Horton Plain National Park. Its about 11 Km Round Trip. Path is clear, But Muddy In Some Places. (no polythene is allowed so wrap your snacks accordingly) (Be careful when you travel out into the fog.)
If You Don't Have Your Own Transportation one has to hire a TUK_TUK ( Nuwara Eliya to Horton Plains and come back less than Rs.3000 (Thusitha -0750829708)
( vehicle/van or other = (Rs.5000-Rs.6000 )

We saw this place in social media and decided to experience the trial. This road is running from Kalupahana to Ohiya (near to Horton Plains National Park) passing Bambarakanda Waterfall and is the shortest route from Balangoda/Belihuloya side to Ohiya.
We used two 4WD jeeps and Full trial was around 23kms. This runs over the waterfall and had to go through the water path of the fall. Views from the beginning to end were stunning and amazing...!!! There were many hard bends and paths all over, and the trail was extremely challenging...!!!
We met and passed many, who walked through this trail from Ohiya Railway station to Bambarakanda and Kalupahana...
It was a very special and great experience, and highly recommend for everyone to try at least once in a lifetime...

Thotupola Kanda is having a historical value in a way people think that this place has used by king Ravana to land his Dadumonaraya (a vehicle that can fly).
Train starts few hundred meters from the Pattipola entry gate of Horton Plains. Trail is around 4 km and do not have much hard Mountains. Better to keep some water with you since no source available in your way.
Nice view can be seen if its not misty at the end of the trail that worth the effort put by you.

Horton Plains is an ideal place to camp because of the terrain and vegetation. Surrounded by carpet grass and tussock grass, & a stream named (Belihul Oya) Horton Plains has 3 campsites. For a more secluded experience, choose campsite 1. Campsite 2 is the least secluded with the circuit trail going beside it.
Most tourists visit Horton Plains to do the circuit trail (Worlds end trail). But if you can camp here, you can hike up to Sri Lanka's 2nd and 3rd highest Mountains.
Price for tourists is steep. About $65 per person per night for camping charges only. For locals it is 2,500 LKR for 10 pax. Having a huge price as such for tourists is ridiculous. Maybe they should reduce the price to attract more tourists because this really is an enjoyable place.
Campsite has a toilet and a garbage container as well.
You can search for local hiking clubs and arrange camping tours at Horton plains.

started from Ohiya, walk from ohiya to Horton plains took few hours, and after giving information to the ticket counter (the process is bit different than worlds end trail, due to lack of visitors, only few per month) we started our walk, wet, muddy areas, slippery rocks and elk footprints, along the way and rarely leopard poo on rocks, at the end of savanna suddny you enter to dark forest and again in to plains, after that starts the climb, no water streams at top, stock small amount of water, some times you may feel thirst at top. when you climb up you can see Ambewela milk factory and around. descend and arrive to the counter before 4pm as the weather is not predictable and large groups of elks roam around, and its their kingdom. its a high sensitive nature zone and a national park, obey the rules

We started from Ohiya railway station and walked along the path to Bambarakanda falls. Best way to travel to Ohiya is by Night train which starts from Colombo fort at 8.00 pm so you can reach here by early morning. Better to book the tickets in advanced, otherwise you might have to stay standing and awake for the whole night since this train is always crowded.
Sunrise and the scenic view is spectacular in the morning since the sky is mostly clear during that time. But the Mountains will start covering with clouds and mostly the road will be misty after couple of hours so you'll have a very nice experience. At the end of the trail you can reach Lanka Ella and Bambarakanda falls and can walk to the source of the Waterfalls by little effort.
