Shakujii Park

Reviewed By bjp257 - Allen, Texas

Just a short walk from Shakujii-Koen station is this beautiful gem. It's a fairly large park with a variety of activities set around a lake. I might have missed it except for the size of the lake on the map. There are information plaques on the trees, trails throughout, a small temple, paddle boat rentals, fishing & a small bandstand. After several visits I still have not seen the whole park. I prefer to take in in small parts. But it's a very relaxing environment. And there are always lots of families with small children, young adults exercising & seniors meeting to chat. The snack area has everything including prices written in Japanese. So if you feel adventurous, just point & nod.

Toshimaen Amusement Park

If you're an enough cute high school girl in one-sided love with a handsome university boy whom you have spent pleasant time with; however, in unfulfilled dates, this amusement park is an attractive place to visit alone yourself. Take an advantage of Asahi mate discount coupon on your visiting this park. You would ride merry-go-round by recalling your lonely dates with your boyfriend by singing Canzone by Alessandro Scarlatti. And, remember your memory of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart "Là ci darem la mano," the song you are eager to wish to sing with him. If you would return to the park with ice-skating rink after you will be grown up, you would enjoy skating with the song from Turandot sung by Luciano Pavarotti in recalling your first love in your maidenhood.

Chihiro Art Museum - Tokyo

Reviewed By April L - Manila, Philippines

I went to Chihiro Art museum to see the Murakami exhibition and was greeted with a small and lovely place in a more remote part of Tokyo. It has a unique charm with a very peaceful and childlike vibe. I wasn't familiar with miss Chihiro's work but I was enchanted with her wonderful paintings of children which drives the mood of the place. It's a bit of an effort going here because switching train tracks in Nakai station is not in 1 building, but it's quite doable and very worth it, as long as you have Wi-Fi and the handy "point me there" feature of the Tripadvisor app! :) Lastly they have a cafe which serves delicious coffee and cheesecake so try it if you have time. Pay entrance fee in cash but you can use your card for the gift shop.

This was not an easy place to find. While the address says Nerima (and there is a Nerima Station) you may be confused as there is a JGSDF base in Nerima but NOT the site of this museum. I'm sure the sentry at the front of the base was a little puzzled when I asked him for directions to the exhibit. You actually need to go to the Wakoshi stop and walk about 15 minutes or so. When you get out of the station, look for the map of the area and you will have a rough idea where it is. The museum is on a base which is located across from a gas station and McDonalds. Admission is free. You don't need to check in with the sentries that are directing traffic - you can just walk straight to the museum which will be on the right with some parking spaces in front. The subway line I took was the Tobu line, exit Wakoshi.

On a clear day Mt. Fuji is visible from the observation deck on the 20th floor and makes excellent photos. One can see a long way and in the northwestern part of Tokyo is the best way to get photos of Tokyo & Mt. Fuji other than Shinjuku. Also, a good spot to operate a HT transceiver if you're an amateur radio operator.

Shakujii Park Furusato Bunkakan

Reviewed By Patrick G - Dundalk, Ireland

Tokyo is a very busy city. There is always something going on. We were in Tokyo at the time of the cherry blossom and were looking for a spot to see it. We have decided to walk to the Shakuji-koen Park as this park looked quite decent on the maps.
However, we came first to this park and the name is quite similar and so we were a little bit confused. This park is just next to one of the biggest parks in the the area. However, it can^t be compared to that one. This park is organized in a different way and has another focus.
Once we were inside the park we could see a large group of joggers and could see a baseball pitch. The park as such seems first very busy but behind that part with all the sport going one is almost nothing going on and you will have space for picknick as most other visitors would just go to the other much bigger park.
If you like a cup of coffee or tea there is also a decent cafe in the building. The building has also a small museum and some of these futuristic and famous Japanese toilets which are so beloved by Western visitors.
