A winding drive up the mountain to a wonderful view of Hagashi and Nishi Maizuru. Free parking up top and a small coffee shop on site. A very well worthwhile visit stunning views especially in the autumn when the trees are changing color and the air is clear.

The museum is very small and takes no more than 20-40 minutes. The Exhibitions and explanations are well done however. They have regular Japanese explanations beside the Exhibitions as well as English, Russian and Chinese explanations on nearby touch screens.
My friend has a grandfather who was a prisoner in Russia during the period, so had a bit stronger connection to this memorial museum than the regular guest I suppose.
Overall, it is a nice place, but perhaps they need more material. Would very much like to know about the Railways, buildings etc. that Japanese prisoners built. Or more stories from the prisoners who were there, what they experienced etc.
Bus goes from Higashi-Maitsuru station. There are very few buses going there (about 1 every hour). When going back we had to reach the 14:01 bus or else there wouldn't be more buses until after 17:00!

Fresh seafood market, with wide range of fish, crabs, prawns, oysters, scallops and other shellfish. Also sells a range of local produce and Japanese tidbits and crackers. There are a couple of restaurants, but you can also select the seafood items directly from the stalls and have them grilled or eat them as sashimi. There are tables available, and a bowl of rice can be bought through a vending machine. Inexpensive and you can eat to your heart’s content. Good fun!
Open 09:00 to 18:00, and closed on Wednesday except when it is a public holiday.

If you like the history of bricks then the Maizuru Brick Museum is the place to visit. The surrounding area is interesting enough and the Japanese Navy ships are nearby if you like ships as well. There is a fairly good restaurant on site and a boat ride around the bay if you want some good views of the crane bridge and the new build ships that JMU shipyard is pretty famous for. The museum is also used for various festivals and at times some rather interesting markets are held in the grounds. Worth a visit? Yes

Museum of Redbrick

The museum's buildings were originally built for stockpiling ammunition for the Imperial Japanese Navy. They are converted to several different functions. This one is called "Red Brick Museum" and it talks about brick's history, functionality, etc. with examples from all over the world. If you like bricks, this is it! If you don't care for it, you can skip it.
I wasn't fully convinced that there's any merit to create a museum about bricks in Maizuru with tax payers' money... I'm sure that should be some much better ways to use this space right next to the naval port.
