Fort Point Lighthouse Park

Visited here as we drove around Nova Scotia. Spent a pleasant time climbing to the top and listening to a former lighthouse keeper's son describe a saving situation he undertook.
Possibly a good stop for those driving and needing a break.
By the way the dogwoods flowing in Liverpool in late June were superb, have never seen such flowering before.

Astor Theatre

One of Canada's oldest continuously operating theatres, the Astor is a gem in the heart of Queens County. The interior is magnificent, with incredible acoustics. The Seating is all old-school fabric Seating, wooden floors, and walls covered with the posters of all the Performances put on by the local amateur theatre group, the Winds of Change.
Recent upgrades to the attached Old Town Hall, now has customers accessing the theatre through a huge, newly developed lobby. The only reason I didn't give this an 'excellent' review is the theatre is not wheelchair accessible through the front door, and the new lobby itself has a step up into the old theatre lobby.

Customer service was lacking. Entered the store, we were simply looked at, no greeting, no suggestions. No product history, no sampling...it was a strange experience. Hardly anything on the shelf. Sat outside and had a sampler tray...after we asked if such a thing existed. Good beer. Bad service.

This waterfront park in the town of Liverpool looks across the beautiful Mersey River. A quiet park frequently by visitors and locals alike, it's a great spot to watch for seals when the mackerel are running, enjoy a quiet picnic at one of the beautiful painted picnic tables, or try your hand at fishing.

Rossignol Cultural Centre

Reviewed By Mary M - Fall River, Canada

We truly had no idea what an amazing collection we would find at the Rossignol Cultural Center in Liverpool NS. Sherman Hines, over his lifetime, has amassed a wonderful collection of artifacts, art, and photography, reflecting his love of his native Nova Scotia. This museum, created by a number of dedicated volunteers and sponsors, including. Mr. Hines, rivals any of the larger and more prestigious collections we have had the good fortune to see here and abroad. One room contains and extensive assortment of items dating back to the days when Wilderness guides would take hunters and fisherman into the depths of central NS on expeditions. Another focused on his big game hunting and contained one of the largest dioramas of taxidermy we have ever seen (even a giraffe). The collection of First Nations items would have been fascinating all on it's own. One area is entirely dedicated to the recreation of an early apothecary, another depicted a fancy tea room. The photography collection includes a number of wonderful photos by Yousef Karsh as well as many of the local dignitaries and characters that Sherman, a reknowned photographer in his own right, has worked with in his lifetime. There were beautiful rugs, paintings and bronzes on display. And one cannot forget the whimsical Outhouse exhibit. Beyond the museum, in the back yard of the property (it was a school at one time), there are a number of buildings representative of the history of the region as well. These are interesting but was the one are of the museum we felt could use some care and attention. Funds being such as they are, we are truly incredulous that the main exhibits are so well and lovingly curated. We would also like to note the enthusiasm expressed by our young host, Tristan, who was surprisingly knowledgable about the collection as a whole. This is a place you could return to again and again.

Perkins House Museum

We really enjoyed our stop at the Perkins House Museum. Only $4pp and it was a definite highlight. The tour guides are super informed and told us the function for numerous objects in this 1770s era home; it was like wandering through a Country Living magazine spread. There are "ghost" holograms that answer a series of pre-recorded questions. Admission gets you in free to the small museum next door.

There's something about burial grounds that soothes the soul. Of interest in this one was the pond and explanatory panel, indicating that the wealthier people were buried in the front of the cemetery while poor folks were placed in the back, often without headstones.

Market on the Mersey

Reviewed By rickat4main - Liverpool, NS

This is the first year for the Market on the Mersey. We have been going every Saturday since it opened. They are just starting out and have about 12-15 vendors. Hopefully, they will grow. It seems like more and more folks are discovering it and coming out. They run from 8 am til noon each Saturday at Liverpool's Privateer Park. Rain Days are held at the Curling Club on Gorham Street just up from the Astor Theatre. My personal favourites are the breads and pastries from Juliens-their “Pave” artisan bread is amazing. Also be sure to buy some Canelés and have them with fresh coffee from Liz’s mini trailer. We also buy wonderful Lamb, smoked Ham and flavourful smoked bacon from the meat vendor. -Wooly Mountain Farm. The veggie lady always has fresh, fresh vegetables and salad fixings including pea shoots and zingy arugula which add an extra touch to summer salads. Highly recommend!
