Undoubtedly one of highlight when traveling to Jember, East Java. Located at the southern part of Jember district, about 30km. Hidden inside mountainous area, this little beach is worth to visit, either for a family trip or nature lover.
The sandy part suitable for family vacation, on the other side, the rocky part is match for nature lover.

Rest Area Gumitir

Reviewed By MichaelAndree - Indonesia

My second visit to this place, something has change but not for the better. The most significant is that the menu now is less choices. It was so much to choose from, but now the plenty become the few. The surrounding itself is not change so much, still as pretty as it can be. We hire the private tour jeep for USD 2,00 per person. You will be taken to the historical 1900 train tunnel and an old coffee factory. Since this spot is not really that high (only about 700m above sea level), Robusta is the only coffee that can live well here. No Arabica, sadly to say. They also got horse back riding, ATV, flying fox, etc all comes in a cheap price. Not so exciting but children would love it for sure.

Roudhotul Muchlisin Mosque

This mosque has a unique Arabic name. It is also unique because unlike many mosques, it has a food court within its compound. There are good choices of local menus to satisfy hungry stomachs. The architecture is eye-catching with decorations on columns and walls. At night, when the lights are switched on, it looks beautiful and mesmerising. Definitely a good stopover for a nice photo.
Overall rating of 4 out of 5 for tourist and photo attraction.

Payangan Beach

Reviewed By Umi Rukailah S - East Java, Indonesia

There are three Beaches close by these areas. Payangan, Watu Ulo and Papuma. These places are reacheable at once for one day trip. Payangan is not for beach walk but hike the hill around to enjoy the scenary. The beach is dangerous for swimming. It only best for the hike lovers. It located at the fishing village of Payangan with fishing auction market so people sorounding are always busy with their life routine. You will enjoy the dynamic of beach people. We need mask to wear for the fishy smell around the market. If lucky we are able to see great fishermen chatches. Beaches is not as clean the Papuma. My choice is still going to Papuma as the best among the three. Letme know if you need more infoation and explanation. I am reacheable if you look on the internet with my full name. Bon Travels Guys!!

Mount Argopuro

Reviewed By aan_anugrah - Jember, Indonesia

The most popular hiking start point either from Baderan or Bremi. This route has its own characteristic and time requirement. Argopuro is a mountain range with its peak goes to 3000 m as, the longest hiking track in Java. Plenty of spring water is available en-route every camping base. To get the most view and trail, I recommend to start from Baderan where we hike with sloping but not steep track until the first camping base. The most spectacular view is found on Cikasur where we can reach on the 2nd day, A massive savanna with origin fauna could be heard and seen, eq. fowl, monkey, peafowl, deer. Extend the time to enjoy and rejuvenate the tiredness and set a tent here for the next route. On the third day, we are heading to Cisentor and proceed to Summit if time is allowed to go. Otherwise, we may set up a tent in Rawa Embik and goes to the summit early in the morning. It takes 3 hours hiking from Rawa Embik to the Summit of Argopuro.

Bandealit Beach

Reviewed By theo1006 - Mijas, Spain

Having been at the eastern Beaches of Meru Betiri National Park we sought out Bandealit beach at its western border too. Unfortunately we planned only one day because we did not bring camping gear. Whereas the area deserves more time for exploration and we found out too late that there is accommodation available.
The beach is part of a wide bay, so that the surf is calm and the beach is safe for swimming as well as for fishing boats landing. And for children there is the shallow estuary of a river to play in. In that estuary we observed the phenomenon of inverted temperature: the water at the bottom was hotter than the water on the surface. Normally it is the other way round because cold water is heavier than warm water. But here the water at the bottom was salty, which made it heavier than the fresh water at the surface.
Although we came on a Saturday, there were only a handful of visitors. The scarcity of domestic visitors also means that the beach is not spoilt by rubbish. Yet one can camp here, a tap of fresh water is provided. And just a couple of 100 m east of the beach are two cabins, named Wisma Raja Udang and Wisma Soneratia. Contact the park office if you want to stay there.
One of the attractions advertised by the NP is a “Goa Jepang” (Japanese bunker), located on a hill at 200 masl. We tried to seek it out, but had to give up after reaching the top of the hill for lack of time and a cleaver. The trail was so overgrown as in places to become invisible. If you want to try it, take enough drinking water and do not choose the trail that starts at Bandealit hamlet. Instead walk to the western end of the beach and there look for a concrete pole that indicates the start of the trail.
With more time and preparation we might have walked the 14 km through the forest to an even more remote bay: Teluk Meru. And the really hardy ones can try a three day hike all the way to Sukamade beach. Only in the dry season!
Office: Meru Betiri National Park, Jalan Sriwijaya 53, Jember. Phone: 0331.335535,
Directions: The best route is from Jember is south to Ambulu, then west staying on the sealed road until one reaches the park gate outside Padukuhan (45 km altogether). From here it is another 14 km on a bumpy jungle road. A 4WD is advisable but our Isuu Panther had enough clearance to make it. Half way along the 14 km jungle road lies rafflesia conservation site. We did not stop there, but with luck you might see a flowering Rafflesia Zolleringiana.

Rembangan is one of the high places at Jember, it offers cool and fresh air. They set up a park with pool there, accompanying a hotel and restaurant. The park is just average, not so big. The pool is small size and nothing to be excited at. Biggest problem is because this park is popular to local citizen. So expect to have the place crowded with local people and local kids, who will not dress properly for swimming and other miss-behaviours. If only the park is well maintained with proper procedures, it may be a good place to visit. As for me, once in a lifetime is more than enough.

Tancak Waterfalls

Reviewed By JohanInIndonesia - Denpasar, Indonesia

Jember might not be the most popular tourist destination in Java, but beside the common and well-known sites, there are still some hidden gems to find.
Air Terjun(waterfall) Tancak is such a place and well worth a visit if you're tired of the city life and feeling a bit adventurous.
Air terjun Tancak is found not in the Agro Wisata Bukit Roma Pasang Gunung area. The wisata area is a quiet and green place situated in some of the Valleys of the Argopuro mountain, and worth a visit on it's own, although it doesn't offer much special tourist attractions besides being a nice green place with some nice mountain views. Entrance to the area is just 5000 rupiah p/person and that includes the waterfall.
However when you've entered the area you are not really near the waterfall yet, and getting there can get a bit challenging. The path to the waterfall can be reached by car or motorcycle. If you came by car you will have to park it at the beginning of the path but with motorcycle you can go as far as you dare to go, almost all the way up to the waterfall itself but i would not recommend it, unless you're maybe a tad short of time and an experienced driver. This because the path starts off with nothing more than rocks and boulders, and halfway through to the waterfall can not even be called a path anymore, but is more like a trail.
This trail can be a bit treacherous especially during wet periods and consists out of dirt and scattered rocks. Should you decide to hike the whole path (recommended) it should take you about 2.5 to 3hours to reach the Waterfall. Although rough the first half can be considered moderately easy for the less experienced hiker, and moderate with some difficult parts towards the end. There are little mountain streams everywhere, and some places they cross the trail, so bring good hiking shoes and expect to get wet feet. When you're almost at the destination, the trail almost seems to vanish, but if you follow the rocks and the streams you should not have any difficulty finding it. At the end you will have to cross a small stream where the water can reach up to your knees at some points. Shortly after that there is an moderate climb about 6-8 meters up, but there are plenty of rocks to firmly place your feet. Unexperienced people should beware though!
During your hike you will have beautiful view on the surrounding valley. You will pass and cross some small patches with coffeetrees there too. Some bits are shaded under bamboo or coffeetrees but otherwise you will have clear view of the sky, so bring a hat and if needed some sunblock. Because of the abundant wetspots expect to find some mosquitos especially in shaded areas so you might also want to bring some repellant. The whole area is scenic, clean untouched beside some local farmers and quiet. During your hike you will enjoy the peace, fresh air and maybe even spot a monkey or two. Do bring plenty to drink and maybe some snacks to eat, there will be nobody selling anything once you you start the hike so be prepared. When i went i only encountered a group of 4 on their way back, and when we turned back 1 couple on their way up. After the effort of your hike you will get rewarded with a nice waterfall in a small clearing, and it's splashing water will provide you with some welcome refreshment. If you have a day to spare while in Jember, i highly recommend visiting this waterfall for the experienced nature loving adventurous hikers.
