A mountain range formed 4,000 years ago by volcanic eruptions. The 580-metre high Mount Omuro is the largest mass of volcanic debris and the highest peak in the Eastern Izu region. From the top of the mountain, you can see the eruption of lava from the seven Izu Islands and the Tiancheng Lianshan Wonderland landscape. Mount Omuro is a natural monument in Japan. Every spring, they hold a fire-and-burn event to maintain its beautiful mountain features.
There is a chairlift to enable people to get better views from higher vantage points. A one-way trip takes about five minutes.

Jogasaki Coast

A very nice walk from the train station to the cliffs. A clearly market path winds its way along the cliff side coast, through beautiful pine trees, across a few suspension Bridges, and a few spots to climb down to the waters edge. a wonderful experience and a nice break from the big cities.

Izu Shaboten Animal Park

Reviewed By KodoDrummer - Yekaterinburg, Russia

Located next to an extinct volcano, Mount Omuro, this is a beautiful combined botanical and zoological garden. It includes over 120 different animals, and more than 1,500 types of cacti and succulent plants, from around the world.
I’ve been to many zoos, so I spent most of my time in the Izu Cactus Park. The cactus welcome visitors with their hands raised and guide visitors to the bathroom (i.e., I am attaching the unique signs indicating the location of the restrooms). The cactus varieties include cactus and a variety of other plants from South America, Mexico (Opuntia Mexicana), African non-cactus family, Island of Madagascar, and many more.
The zoological garden animals include kangaroos, capybara, wallabies, rodents, pelicans, peacocks, flamingos, other birdlife, squirrel monkeys, and chimpanzees. Many of the animals could be touched, pet, and fed animal treats purchased in the park.
The premises also houses six restaurants, being Restaurant Gibontei, Restaurant Chao, Restaurant Hanamusubi, Restaurant Café, and Bell Station, and Omiyagekan, a souvenir specialty shop.
Dog lovers heaven . . . Dog owners can bring their dogs to the zoo.
Admission fee is adults including high school students 1,800yen; elementary and junior high school students 900yen; and infants 300yen. Discount coupons can be obtained online.

Omuro Mountain Lift

Reviewed By LollypopSunshine - London

I had a wonderful day with a local guide who drove me to the mountain with a bike. We took the lift up and then we spent a pleasant few hours slowly riding down, stopping to admire the view, visit a garden, take tea and finally enjoy a soak in an onsen. Not sure I would want to do the ride on a wet day but on a clear, sunny day it was just beautiful.

A little surreal to see all those Teddy Bears in one place in action but a very interesting collection.

Izu Granpal Park

fun park for family with small children. $10 per adult entrance fee plus
ride tickets. Free slider rides on foam sheet was great deal. Walking on water in clear huge plastic ball was so fun (about $8 for 5 minutes ride).
The restaurant's menu was very limited and ok for amusement park if you don't expect much.

Must take to have a memory of Ito with you.

Kadowaki Bridge

Reviewed By PassportEnvyTA - Kapolei, HI

The bridge itself is not that big a deal, it's the setting along the coast that is spectacular. Wild and rugged, there is a nice trail along the cliffs if you are in the mood for an easy hike. The lighthouse is worth a climb, too, for the view it affords from the top. We enjoyed both the bridge and the short mile walk from the train station under the Cherry Blossoms -- a lovely outdoor afternoon.

Michi-no-Eki Ito Marine Town

Reviewed By Anthony N - Toronto, Canada

We spent a couple days in Ito and to Orange Beach to Marine Town from our Ryokan – it has a public onsen, a few restaurants and a seafood market (might be more interesting to Japanese tourists looking to take home packaged foodstuffs from the sea). The streets within Ito near the station have far more character, and we weren’t too impressed with the Marine Town facility. We grabbed a quick bite at the Izu Kogen Brewery, which was written-up in Lonely planet, and the beer and raspberry juice was super refreshing, and the wood oven pizza was our only taste of western food in Ito.
