Hondarribia is known for the high quality of its Basque gastronomy. But we weren’t there for the food. We wanted to visit the walled old town. Archeaologists have concluded that people have been living in the vicinity of the old town for 5,000 years. The old town includes a 10th century castle and the medieval wall that surrounds the town dates to the 15th century. When you walk through one of the gates in the wall, you really get the feeling that you’ve stepped back in time. The cobbled streets, the narrow lanes and the tall houses with carved wooden balconies all hark back to a bygone era. The atmosphere is helped by the fact that there are very few vehicles inside the walls. And no tourist shops!
We entered the old town by crossing a high bridge, through an old gate in the wall. An impressive introduction!
Some of the lanes in the old town are so narrow, that I don’t imagine that they get any sunlight during the day. It’s a lovely place to visit.

Clearly marked swimming areas, water quality, waste management… you will know it all ! With water that reaches 23ºC in the height of summer, it is a privileged spot for families who seek plenty of space and safety. It is also a good choice for novice and seasoned surfers in search of sensations. The beach attendants propose facilities such as tent and deckchair hire and beach clubs for children. The beach of Hendaye offers bathing water quality A for several years.
Staying in Hondarribia, visited for the day.
Amazing beach which goes on for miles. Flat, open, tons of rooms, shallow, warm and inviting.
You can find you own little space, not to be crowded, great people watching and excellent sailing in the distance!
Quite enjoyed it!!

My wife and I each got to fly on Olivier's paraglider. He was very professional, patient with our questions and instructive. He put us both at ease and in confidence. His flying was smooth yet sharp. We highly recommend his coastline tour. The view was breath-taking. Merci beaucoup!

We found that beautiful street by accident. We arrived in Hondarribia late afternoon and decided to go for a walk to kill time before dinner. We were blown away by this lively and lovely street. It's lined with beautiful trees and with charming basque houses on each side. The street is teeming with restaurants and pintxos bar. We were surprised that Hondarribia and it's charming calle San Pedro is not more known to tourists. We spent 3 nights in Hondarribia and used it as a base to explore the French and Spanish basques villages nearby. We wished we'd stayed longer to explore this town.

Oiasso it's an archaeological museum, located in Irun (Gipuzkoa), which shows the most important remains of the Oiasso archaeological site, its port, baths and mining works.
It was nice and instructive. If you have visited other Roman museums you are not going to learn much. The exhibition is in Spanish, Basque and French. No English.
