Wonderful example of an early-romanesque church. A must-see for all architecture and medieval times lovers. From the church you can take a walk to several other medieval churches situated closer to the city centre - it is called the Rose Route, just follow the line on the ground.

Fairly modern style with fantastic sculptured iron doors. There are also many wonderful features and artifacts to explore during your time in the Cathedral as I have tried to show in the photos.

Visited this Bar and Restaurant twice on a recent visit to Hildesheim, the build was beautifully restored in the 1980's having been bombed in the second world war and replaced by a hideous concrete building in the 50's, the Market Square in Hildesheim is a great example of old German Architecture. Inside the building you are served good food and drink at very reasonable prices, just one tip, it is advisable to have somebody that can speak German as this is not a tourist destination, and it's difficult to communicate.

one of the most important egyptological collection in Europe. The museography is very nice and modern. The artefacts date back to the fourth millenium BC (with even some more lithic artefacts older) and go trough the roman period in Egypt. Some very rare pieces including sarcophagies, potteries, coins, stone monuments and statues, gold and silver jewels, bronze divine statues and papyri.

It was late when I walked by this and had to stop to really look at this magnificient church. It is quite big and has a great Gothic architecture. It is a Lutheran church from the14th century and has a high tower that can be easily seen from a lot of places in Hildesheim.

St Godehard's Church is an unspoiled gem of Romanesque architecture that gives a good idea of what the bombed, and now rebuilt, churches must have originally been like.I loved the tranquility and peace of the church and the thought that this has been a place of worship for so long. Add this to your tour of churches in Hildesheim.

Eventhough the city was destroyed during 1945, the Hildesheim people reconstructed the beautiful buildings and churches of the city. Great for them, and thank you for giving us the chance to appreciate the old architecture!

I visited Hildesheim particularly to see the Bernward treasures in their new setting of the museum. It is a wonderful space, well meeting the modern criteria that museum objects must have a space that enhances the experience of seeing them. The items themselves are very well situated at a comfortable height, and the viewer is able to get up close to most of them. The lighting is good, as are the details of the items. I had with me the catalogue from the Met in New York - where the treasures paid a visit while the museum and Cathedral were being renovated, apparently the first such guide to the treasures written in English, so I was fully able to enjoy my experience. The museum is on several floors, including a lower level where you can view archaeological details
