Riveer is a system of water taxis and ferry boats that connect a couple of nice towns and attractions in the Gorinchem region (like: Gorinchem, Woudrichem, Sleeuwijk and - during the summer seaon also - Loevestein Castle in Poederoijen). At the Gorinchem side there is a waiting room, box office and a small place to order snacks and have drinks. The boat rides are fairly efficient and not really pricy.

This museum exhibits a lot of interesting information, ranging from the history of the region of Gorinchem (also known as Gorcum) to the art that are also related to the history of the region.
I myself find the organization of the exhibition confusing. Moreover, all the information is given in Dutch, making me got lost in the middle of my visit.
I would only recommend this museum to the ones who speak Dutch.

In this Chocolate-shop you will find all your needs for chocolate, you can see the chocolate being made in the atelier, you can smell the cacao, and you can taste the real Belgian chocolate. You can follow courses were you can make your own favourite chocolates. Visiting this shop will exite all your senses......
Olala Chocola is part of a small chain of artisan chocolate makers in the Netherlands. They make all there own chocolate products, like bonbons and other festive or commemorative items. If you walk in the door, your sense of smell will be stimulated. Hard to resist. And you don't have to. The counter has a bowl of chocolate remainders to taste and displays a huge variety of bonbons. Don't overeat, but some indulgance is probably good for you as long as you don't make this place your number one stop on any groceries shopping day :-)

This museum is relatively new but it tells an old story (1600-1700) about Hendrick Hamel who 'discovered' Korea. If you are interested in neat stories from way back, this is a museum that tells you one. Mastering the Dutch language to a degree is a plus if you visit this museum, altough the artefacts tell a lot of the story.

This windmill is an eye catcher at one of the many water front of the town of Gorinchem. It is located in a peaceful part of town, with lots of green and water. Worth a visit to admire the windmill from up close, even if you cannot always just walk in (it is open on request and special occasions).

This is a great local theatre (predominantly Dutch performers, performing in Dutch) and it is also a art house movie theatre. If the language barrier gets you, the art house movie theatre part might attract you the most.

The tower is beautiful to admire from the outside. There are times (ask the local tourist office/VVV) that you can climb the tower in a group for a small fee. The tower itself is also open to the public on certain times every week. There is a volunteer that will talk you through the history of the tower and the current use. It is a place of remembrance and meditation if you like. The current use came about after the tragic death of two teenagers in Gorinchem that were accidentally hit by gun shots not meant for them. Three artists were asked to design a piece of art for the tower in memory of the tragic event. The winning artist has a lot of symbolism in here light thread art. Admire and perhaps leave a message in on of the tubes. During the day the light threads bring light from outside in. During the night the light threads bring light inside out. Worth a visit, but pay attention to the opening times. Interestingly the tower looks part of the church that is attached to it, but it is not. The arch on the inside of the tower that seems to lead into the building of the church, does not, it is totally cemented shut. On closer inspection it is visible that the building style of the tower and the church have nothing in common. They were built in different eras. The tower was once part of an older church that was destroyed (burnt) decades earlier. The newer church was just built against the old tower, but is not part of it. The tower is governed by the town of Gorinchem. The church is governed by the churcy society.

This gallery annex art work place displays art made by creative non-traditional artists. That is where the name 'OutsiderArt' comes from. Working as an artist is a form of giving meaning to part of the day for artists with a certain distance to the traditional labor market. The art on display is for sale or for rent (and can be admired in the gallery as well). Worth a visit.
