Small wooden church. They say of 'historical' significance as they do for many on this island. What can I say? It cost us quite a lot of money to come here from Castro - maybe look at my photos and draw your own conclusion...

Chonchi as a small town is worth a slight detour off Route 5 South, and the seafront's certainly worth it on a sunny day, as fishermen and others go about their business. Colourful houses and even more colourful boats are part of the charm.

I visited the museum last Friday on a bitterly cold and rainy day. Don Sergio made us most welcome and allowed my daughter to play one of his precious collection. His collection of accordions would take some beating and he was in the middle of repairing some of his pieces.
We made a donation and I bought some postcards. Unfortunately he had sols all of his CDs but a calender was also available.
The museum has been open since 2010. For us that was a shame as we visited Chonchi with my accordion-playing dad in 1999 and so he missed this.
He would have considered it to be the perfect museum!

Yes, it has one of the many churches on the island (see separate review) and also a quite nice waterfront. A few shops and a post office where you can use the rather dirty toilet for 0.100 CHP.

There are a number of UNESCO protected wood churches in Chiloe, each with it's own unique personality. It doesn't take a long time to explore, however this is definitely worth the stop.
