I have visited this place during my 5 days Hokkaido trip. This is one of the transparent Caldera lakes in world. Water is so clean that you can see atleast 20 meters deep inside while boating. you can enjoy sightseeing either swan boat or ferry boat with transparent surface to view inside lake. It can be visited by taking infrequent public transport from Chitose staion by 40 minutes bus journey. But dont come by bus back to Chitose instead take a rental bicycle from tourist center just for 500 yen and travel back to Chitose while enjoying beautiful scenery around. but keep in mind there is separate road build up for only cycling us it.

This was far and away the best shop in the airport. You can see a factory in operation creating the chocolates and packaging it through multiple big windows. There was quite a number of museum settings providing history and information on Chocolate. The shop was spread across multiple areas and each area specialized in a different assortment of product. You can take your basket between shop areas and pay at the end. There were a great variety of choices. They even gave you a cold-pack if you bought the more delicate chocolates. We bought a lot of chocolate to take home with us and it has been great.

This place is just 10-15min from Chitose new airport. And a wonderful way to commence a trip if you are going Sapporo or western part of Hokkaido. Salmon is an important part of the cities around Hokkaido and indeed the country.
One of the most amazing feature is that part of the Observatory is build underwater along the Chitose river and you can see the salmon run in the natural setting right in front pf you. The 'scene' changes according to the season, as it is natural.
For visitors who have never carried a real salmon, there are mock depicting the actual size and weight. There is touch experience pond where you can immerse your cupped palm to attract the salmon fries to enter your palm...
Overall, a nice and informative place to visit.

Really cool place to kill some time, perfect for viewing civilian airliners but can't see military aircraft, better to be in the departure lounge at gate 0 for that

I found this pretty interesting since I knew very little about the flora and fauna native to Hokkaido. The museum inside also gives you a good picture of the interesting geological nature of Lake Shikotsu, which is surrounded by three inactive volcanoes. And of course, I love taxidermy and they have some inside.

We walked down here from Osatsu station in less than 10 mins, which is one stop towards Sapporo from Chitose station. We had prebooked the factory tour, and were shown around the factory in Japanese. I'm sure if required, English might be available as well? The highlight of the tour was of course, the complimentary beer at the end. They gave us 2 coupons each, which was more than enough beer for a morning tour. I was impressed with the Gardens within the factory grounds. People are most welcome to wander through them to walk off the effects of the beer. All in all a lovely place to kill an hour or two.

The road station is just beside the Salmon Hometown Aquarium by the Chitose river. There are local produces and souvenirs on sale, as well as a nice little food court that serves delicious Hokkaido soup curry as well as soba and chirashi dons.
The road station is very child friendly -- baby room, hot water for milk, etc. the indoor and outdoor place spaces for children are well equipped, and the rest rooms are bright and exceptionally clean.
There is also a Lawson convenient store on site.
Nice little place to make a stop after a visit to the Aquarium.

We had seen reviews about this park before leaving for Hokkaido, so thought seeing that we had several hours before our flight we would visit it. It is so easy to get to from the airport, just catch a train leaving for Sapporo that stops at Chitose. It is an easy walk from the station to the park. There are several walks through wooded areas and a pleasant Fountain in one area. You could hear the birds cheeping as you walked. If you had young children there are two good Playgrounds for them to play on. Much better than sitting at the airport !

The outlet was only 3 minutes walk from Minami Chitose. There were many outlets from international brands until Japanese brands. Mostly outlet offered big discount especially for old products. I found what I was looking for with good price. Not the best outlet mall since I didn’t my favorite brand here, but it is still a nice place for shopping.
