While it is impressive, much of the overall archeological site remains buried and not excavated. So it's a bit of a waste as we wish there was more to see. The actual museum where they have placed the Lord of Sipan's archeological finds are impressive, and we would've skipped out on this one if we knew much of it remains buried or closed off.

Playa Pimentel

Playa Pimentel was, long ago, a very popular beach with the owners of haciendas in Lambayeque and with people from Lima. It has become a tourist trap with overpopulated Beaches during the local summer. Cheap souvenir stores and mediocre restaurants along the Malecon.

Iglesia Santa Maria - Catedral de Chiclayo

Reviewed By Jolyon67 - Melbourne, Australia

The Cathedral of Santa Maria is one of the few tourist attractions in Chiclayo. It overlooks the main city square, and is neo-classical in style. It dates from 1869 and was designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel. On the other side of the square is the equally classical town hall.

It's OK but nothing special in terms of South America town squares. Busy streets on two sides also detract from it. You'll probably pass through it several times in your wanderings through town. Not worth a special trip to see it.

Very cosmopolitan, romantic and clean place. This is good place to hang out with friends, watching the skaters around, or the couples liying on the ground, people taking pictures. It is a peacefull place and one of my favourite for going to read a book or just seat and listening some music

There are two main Catholic Churches in Chiclayo, the Cathedral and this one. The Cathedral is much larger and important but this one, founded by the Franciscsns is very pretty and centrally located. Well worth a visit.

Complejo Arqueologico Ventarron

This archelogical site is off the beaten path but if you go to Huaca Rajada, it is on the way and should be included. It is small and still being excavated but with very little government support. The entry fee is very modest, guide included at no charge, and even though contributions are not solicited it helps to support the on-going work if you do make one. This civilization (can´t be called a culture) dates back to 2000 years b.c. There are still visible etchings on some walls that give clues as to the habits of this civilization which preceeds Moche, etc. If you have the time, include this! It should be included on all archelogical tours.

A super cool history 3-D history lesson. I´ve been to Chiclayo a couple times, visited the museums, read of the various gods belonging to the old cultures. But the sculpture and Gardens of this little trek are awesome! And there are informational (Spanish) signs to teach you about it.
In addition to the statues, there is a gorgeous, huge concrete mural at the one end of the walk. It´s an amazing representation of Peru´s coastal history, definitely worth visiting. I can´t think of anything I´d recommend more to kill time in Chiclayo.

Since I am travelling in Peru it has been the greatest adventure!
On super comfortable peruvian Paso Horses did ride through the Pomac Forest (Natural reserv) where there is lots of birdlife. We climbed up to the different ruins of Lambayeque Culture which are inside that beautiful forest. From up there it is a spectacular view over the forest and the Mountains. At the last ruin Huaca las ventanas, I have been able to see the tomb with over 60 bodies The tour costs 45 Soles per person, it is good value!
The riding started from Rancho Santana, phone 97 971 21 45, www.cabalgatasperu.com. Have to get a small bus from Chiclayo to the village of Pacora (1 hour), from there it is only a 5 minutes walk to the Rancho. On their web is a good explication how to get there.

The Palacio Municipal here was not terribly grand or impressive, but then why should it be, as the tone is unassuming as well. It was however quietly pretty.
