The Mt. Beautiful Tasting Room is adjacent to the Two Rivers Cafe located in central Cheviot, and features a beautifully renovated, light and airy space that preserves historic aspects of its original structure, while incorporating indigenous materials and other elements from the Mt. Beautiful vineyard estate. A long, clean concrete slab counter runs North to South with a walkthrough gap in the middle representing the iconic “Chasm” that runs through the vineyard, separating it into Northern and Southern sections. Guests may choose to stand for a tasting at the counter, or take a seat at one of the many beautiful and locally-crafted macrocarpa or oak tables featuring wood milled from trees grown on the vineyard. Individual tastes of wine are available, but guests are encouraged to experience the breadth of Mt. Beautiful’s portfolio, which includes five estate grown varietals; Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Reservations are not required, however, it's suggested that groups of 10 or more call in advance. Do the circuit from Christchurch turn off after the bridge before getting to Greta Valley, go to Gore bay this way and see the country side, enjoy the beach and the walks, have lunch at Cheviot. When leaving after the bridge leaving Cheviot take the 2nd right and go the old north Road.

After stopping for lunch at the adjoining cafe we perused the gallery. Some really nice works of art and jewelry on sale. Great location next to the cafe. Well worth a visit

As you drive north through Cheviot, you will find St Anne's Lagoon about 1.5kms on the left. It is well signposted with the distinctive brown tourist signage used in NZ. For us it was a wet and cold day and there was little bird life to see, and we also passed through in the mid afternoon. On a fine day in the early morning or late afternoon this should be a good spot for a bit of bird watching.

have visited several times over the past years and enjoy the Spring, Summer and Autumn there. Site of the original Cheviot homestead of which only the foundations remain. The Mature trees are a highlight. The walking trail is a loop from the nearby town of Cheviot and can take a couple of hours

Started off with a lovely beach walk - but the the track climbs, providing a fantastic view out over the Pacific ocean. Not suitable for pushchairs. Sturdy shoes recommended. The track ends up at the Hurunui River Mouth after 2 hours - either leave a car there or walk back

Blockhill is a small, natural farm and garden. We actively practice sustainable horticulture and forestry using permaculture principals. Attractions include edible food forest, landscape water catchment systems, assorted animals, and extensive plantings of practical plants and trees. Stop in for a tour, have a picnic and learn about low impact living.
Only had a one night stay unfortunately as it was one of the best places we stayed at on our trip. A proper cabin with a lovely outdoor Seating area overlooking the tree canopy in the valley. Friendly hosts who were happy to show us round the permaculture small holding.

Spotted some lovely paintings in this gallery, as well as some very reasonably priced jewelery made in NZ. the gallery has a wide range of NZ made goods and it was easy to browse. The shop is easy to find being on the left hand side of the road as you approach from the south, and is right on the major crossroads in the town of Cheviot.

The initial part of the track is lightly sloped, there are some steps to negotiate near to the end. Some lovely bird life to encounter. Within minutes you feel you are miles from civilisation
