We ate in the garden overlooking the flower garden and with a view of the hills, the weather was perfect, the service from our waitress Alia was outstanding, and each course of our meal was delicious.
It began with complementary (and heavenly) home-cooked bread, olive oil and butter with sea salt, followed by an ‘amuse bouche’ of sweetcorn, Parmesan mayonnaise and crispy prosciutto, which was lovely. My local fish starter (can’t remember the name!) was a treat and I savoured every morsel, along with a smooth and fruity glass of their Sauvignon-semillon - perfect. Our respective merino lamb and venison loin were succulent and married beautifully with their accompaniments (the latter came with seared rhubarb and a liquorice granola...which worked!), and our accompanying roast potatoes were delicious and generous, and all washed down with a most agreeable Cabernet-merlot. Dessert was a masterpiece! Bush honey panacotta - of a perfect consistency- married with a wonderful verbena milk sorbet and roasted apricots - totally divine! Well done chefs!

An excellent cafe/restaurant on the highway north of Christchurch. Great food and service. Fans of Terra Viva in Roydvale Ave, Christchurch, will appreciate the quality of this establishment. Do not miss!
If you need a lunch stop between Christchurch and Blenheim, then this is worth it. Plenty of indoor and outdoor Seating means that it doesn't get too crowded. The food options are really good and come with or without salad. The lamb shank pie is to die for, and probably the best pie I've had in years. The service was a bit slow but that's not so much of a problem if you outside enjoying the sun. There is a small wine shop as part of the complex which has a very good selection of the wines from the Waipara district.

We stopped here whilst travelling north. Just needed some coffee but they have delicious looking cakes and lunches at reasonable prices. Very quaint vintage building nicely appointed dining area. Coffee was very nice but sure to stop in for those culinary delights on way back!

Popped in here for brunch on way home from ChCh today and to be honest was just expecting simple pub/café fare.. From the minute we walked in Jasmine on front of house was welcoming friendly and we felt like we had been welcomed into someones home :) ... absolutely fantastic service and the food was incredible! I had the open steak Sandwich and omg the best Ive had...ever! My friend had the rump steak and salad.. we both commented it was the nicest piece of steak cooked the best we had had in years... absolutely delicious! and such good value (his was $15.50 and mine $18) ..great coffee, very very clean and bright premises and toilets etc amazing ... but the thing that really stood out was the service.. To the owners, I work in tourism and Jasmine is a credit to you and an asset to your business...awesome young lady with a bright future ahead of her in hospitality if she chooses to go further.. Jasmine , Thank you!! Will be in again and definitely recommend to others.. Nicci and Dave (Picton)

This place offers what you would expect in a country pub. Cheap drinks, good lunch specials and a host of locals. The food wasn't fantastic, but it was appropriately priced, and the cute country atmosphere definitely compensated. Thanks for taking the time to review our pub Andrew, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit.

Grumpy, slow and poor quality. We went back after a great visit a year ago.... it's gone backwards... grumpy serving person at the counter who clearly didn't want families in the cafe, orders mixed up, and 2 hours to get all the meals out. Won't be coming back!

Sip on expertly made hummingbird coffee or one of the local, Waipara wines by the log fire or outside with country views.
Headed here for brunch with a friend and had a very enjoyable meal! The service was nice and efficient although they were a little confused with our table numbers until I realised they were walking around with my plate.
The iced chocolates are really good (they unfortunately don’t serve my favoured Coca Cola) and the coffees (according to my friend) were good too.
