The English name of this place is Rock Castle Sloup. It is a huge sandstone rock formation around 60 meters wide, 100 meter long and 35 meter high. In actuality the English name is “kind of” wrong. First, the town Sloup is located in a completely different part of Czech, and the Rock Castle is in town Sloup v Cechach (three words). The second discrepancy is that the Rock Castle was never a castle! “Skalni hrad a pustevna” translates: Rock castle and hermitage”. It was a very old hiding place and religious hermitage. The castle is a romantic phrase describing the shape of the rock formation, rather than its function.
We knew above facts before arrival (thanks to great site: http://hradsloup.cz), but they didn’t change our opinion. We fell in love with the online pictures of Rock Castle Sloup from the first sight. At the ticket counter, we got laminated page with points of interest description, and their numbers corresponded with the metal numbers chiseled into the rock at the actual location. There were many hidden places to be discovered, tons of interesting details, and great view from everywhere. For us it was a great treat! Oh, also, there were no tourist buses ~ a great plus.

This site is quite small compared to other interesting geological sites we've visited. If you've never been to basalt columns (eg Giant's Causeway) it's worth a look if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way as it's not something phenomenal. Early morning or late evening is quietest otherwise lots of other visitors will be in your photos!

Novy Bor makes some of the best crystal in all of Bohemia and this lovely museum gives you an insight into the history and the style of the glass. I was lucky as I has a Czech local translate everything to me, so I cant speak to the multi-lingual aspect of the museum.
Still worth a visit if you are in town.

Tours from Prague and Dresden to Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland National Park
Have you experienced that time when all churches and Castles almost looked the same? Then.. take a breather! To do this trip - joining a tour and having a guide is highly recommended. The connection points from each area plus the hike up the Mountains, down to the raft along the gorge would so much if you have an excellent guide with you. I highly recommend Cayman Travel (Jan Cerny) - he lives in the area so he knows the place best.
Lots of hiking.. we clocked in 23,000 steps (17km), burned 510kcal - but the scenery, the company, the guide made it all worth it. Highly recommended

Macha Lake is located in beautiful countryside. It adds beauty and named after the famous Czech poet Karel Hynek Macha - author of the song "Maj". I like to see above the water is also a castle Bezděz. This is all the reason in shipping operations.

Stale se zlepšující nové hřiště, kde nenajdete moc stínu. Hezky poseceno. Hodne vody.
