This crypt is very large with many underground rooms with fresco's and long corridors with information plagues in french and English. Plenty of artifacts and historical items on disply. Truly is a place to visit if in boulougne sur mer. 5€ entrance fee. Totally recommend.

This amazing place was directly opposite our hotel, so we visited before checking in. Amazing range of fish and animals, and loads of informative audio and visual displays highlighting everything from global warming to the local fishing industry. As I keep a mini reef at home, highlight for me was the awesome walk over lagoon, with corals growing one side, and a reef pool the other, both bristling with life, plus you able to walk down to viewing platforms that allow you see them from side on. Sharks were stunning. Great sea lion display as well. Not cheap at 54 euros for three of us, but well worth the money.

This was a pleasant way to spend an hour after a lunch in the fortified town on a nice sunny day. Amazingly it was free to access them.

I was heading to visit the 13th Century Chateau Musee. From the outside it is quite impressive! The fortified walls look quite sturdy! However, it has no keep.
Once inside though, we noticed there was nothing to visit, except a museum about local, Italian and Flemish arts and paintings from Georges Mathieu. It also displayed archaeological finds from Greece, Egypt, Oceania, Alaska and Inuits masks. They had some great displays.
I hope that one day we will be able to visit this majestic castle.

We visited the Notre Dame de Boulogne last weekend. The crypt was superbly preserved and well lit.
We spent a good hour exploring the individual areas. Afterwards we went upstairs to the Cathedral. A very impressive dome. Makes for great Panoramic photos.
Definitely worth a visit whilst in Boulogne.

I have had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful beach several years running. Each time, the weather has been very hot and not just warm. The sand is lovely to walk on and the beach is not dirty. I would certainly recommend a visit.

Rue de Mahicoulis is a row of steps leading from the waterfront into th main town. It was a suburb for fishermen and their families, created because the wealthy merchants didn't want to live amongst them! La Beuriere is one of two houses which have survived the war and other ravages of time. It is a tiny place but packed full of interest and the young man who explained everything to us was full of stories. He explained everything in great detail (and in very good English). The families who lived in these houses were very large and there are hidden sleeping places in cupboards and drawers - only one bed! They had minimal equipment and sanitation but obviously survived as a community. It is well worth a visit for €2.50

Unfortunately we were unable to go outside due to the rain but the tower itself was interesting with good historical displays. Our guides English was not strong but made a great effort to make us feel welcome and explain as much as she could.
We must go back in fine weather!

Not just for tourists, people come to buy plaice and cod, and other fish I didn't recognise. Lots of shell fish too. Interesting to stop on a stroll about.

I didn’t expect this square. We were exploring the old city of Boulogne-sur-Mer when we noticed this square with its garden of 5 senses: Smelling, Seeing, Hearing, Touching and Tasting. This is its tenth year of existence and there were many visitors enjoying this garden.
What attracted me at first was a huge nose with grass inside it. Curious I approached it. As we kept on exploring we found all 5 senses and each had its own Fountain.
Plants were chosen to express each sense. Quite innovative!
We enjoyed looking at each sense and how they portrayed it. I took numerous pictures! Wow!
A must see!
