Salamis (/ˈsæləmɪs/; Greek: Σαλαμίνα Salamína, Ancient and Katharevousa: Σαλαμίς Salamís), is the largest Greek island in the Saronic Gulf, about 1 nautical mile (2 km) off-coast from Piraeus and about 16 kilometres (10 miles) west of Athens. The chief city, Salamina, lies in the west-facing core of the crescent on Salamis Bay, which opens into the Saronic Gulf. On the Eastern side of the island is its main port, Paloukia, in size second in Greece only to Piraeus, the port of Athens.

To arrange a visit on a different day and time, please contact the museum. Don't be put off by the name 'museum', this is not a sterile exhibition of dusty artefacts but a carefully restored Cycladic olive mill. The attention to detail in the restoration is incredible and this alongside a video presentation and a personal talk by the owner make this a really special and informative experience. It is the best preserved animal powered old olive mill in Andros island. The mill was restored and transformed into museum, in order to offer to every visitor, regardless of age, the option to come close to the underling culture of the valuable product and to get familiar with the old traditional techniques of olive oil production as well. Besides they can see the traditional technics of constructing buildings in Cyclades through the centuries.
This Cyclades Olive Museum was lovingly restored by its present owner Dimitris. The knowledge and passion of this man brings to life an ancient and very important tradition of producing olive oil on this beautiful island. This is a remote beach reached on foot with a spectacular rock sculpture in the middle of the beach naturally made by the winds and sea waves. You can reach it either by car and foot from the main road or by a nice and easy 45 minutes walk from the golf of Korthi.

We came across this path by accident trying different routes from our apartment down to the harbour area. Part of the way you pass one of the oldest houses in Batsi then come to a spring running down hill to the sea. This part of the path is shaded by trees and good place to stop relax and just listen to the birds and the running water a most enjoyable walk.

the sea sports are the hot drive for the Kipri beach. Though there are three beach bars to choose with different ambience. Loved the surfers one !

Beautiful seascapes teeming with marine life, as well as the impressive Mastropetros wreck are bound to excite you. Really loved spending a week there in August 2013! Thx to the ScubAndros team for such a special hosting!

In July 1979 the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation inaugurated the Museum of Contemporary Art in Hora, capital of Andros and birthplace of Basil P. Goulandris. In the two wings of the Museum a part of the Foundation’s collection is exhibited throughout most of the year. Each summer, since 1986, the Foundation has been organising temporary Exhibitions of distinguished 20th-century artists in the Museum of Contemporary Art on Andros. The Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation has built up a significant art collection of important 20th-century Greek and international artists. This collection comprises the core of the Museum of Contemporary Art on Andros. The increasing attendance of the Athenian public and the inhabitants of Andros led to the Museum’s expansion to a new wing, which was completed in 1986. Moreover, the Foundation has made provisions for the construction, equipment and enrichment of a new Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens.
When we visited the featured exhibition was the work of George Zongolopoulos, not someone I'd heard of before, but who seems well known for large scale sculptures in public spaces. His smaller works and models of umbrellas on fixed wires viewed through huge magnifying lenses were certainly interesting. In the gallery below there was a eclectic selection of paintings, some very striking, which were mostly from the permanent collection. The separate wing devoted to local sculptor Michalis Tombros was well done.
All in all, it was an absorbing way to spend half a morning and the island is lucky to have a gallery of this quality.

An amazing coffee bar in Andros island.. A place 2 chill out during the day and have moments at nights with their cocktails next to the sea.

Wandered into the harbour area just before sunset in the week before Easter. Lots of places were still preparing/ painting/ taking deliveries etc... Not so this lovely bar overlooking the harbour, west facing so we had the mellow sunset colours.
Everything was prinstine, lovely white washed walls and pale blue cushions.. A wide choice of Seating styles on the terraced out side area.
A very pleasant server immediately brought water in classy glasses so we had something whilst ordering/waiting for our drinks. The white wine was so delicious we could have stayed for more but the complimentary selection of nuts/snacks wouldn't have been enough to keep us on an even keel.
Wow, as the sun set it became even more wonderful!

In our 20+ years of going to Andros this has become one of our favourite Beaches - we go every year. It's easy to find and always quiet. The swimming is lovely because it's always sheltered from the wind. Be careful if parking your car under the tamarisk trees - the twigs can badly scratch the paintwork (we know from bitter experience!).
It's a nice stroll to the little tavern for lunch. All-in-all, a perfect, non-commercialised Greek beach.
PS: I've attached photos of the beach from winter 2016 - snow!
