Vibrant Barranquilla is the epicenter of Carnival,a four-day festival of food, music, dance and beautiful party people. For the other 361 days of the year, the fourth-largest city in Colombia offers plenty of opportunities to pursue a balance of epic nightlife and historic sightseeing. The churches alone are their own festivals of architecture, and the impressive Museum of the Caribbean is a great source of political, cultural and social context.

I was surprised by this Museum. It doesn't seem like much but it does have very good displays and information about the Colombian Caribbean culture, on how it arose from a clash of cultures from Africa, Europe and American Indians. I very much enjoyed the videos on each indigenous tribe on this coast of the country. One of tour guides, Sergio, was really attentive and was well informed, he answered every single question I had. I highly recommend a visit to this Museum.

Had lunch here. loved the views from all sides by the beach. food was good. dont order ribs as this is probably not ordered often and it tasted like it had been in the freezer a while.

We love this Cathdral, but at first glance it does seem rather cavernous. Gorgeous stained glass windows in front depict the 7- day Creation. Pope John Paul II visited in the 80's and stood on the balcony. There's a small museum inside with items from his visit.

Beautifully decorated for a wedding, I thought the mass was beautifully sung, and the sound good. This church is fairly modern, has simple ornamentation, and is on the small side. Nice neighborhood.

Went to the zoo on the recommendation of Tripadvisor. It is small but well taken care of and we had fun. One young man named Daniel that worked for the zoo approached us and said he could answer questions because he spoke English. He was...MoreHI! We love you enjoyed your visit and that you have learned some things about the animals. We hope you come back very soon.

This was a great place to see some festivities before Carnaval started the next day!! Everyone is out on the street, eating, dancing, and watching performers. We had a great time and the energy was insane!! Seems like it'd be fun and busy on a regular night as well. The mall is right next door too, which is convenient.

This is something to do in Barranquilla that will kill a few hours.
Los Flores area is dangerous so becareful when moving around here.
Saying that, the river mouth area seems safe to walk, and it is a long, long windy walk. It takes a lot longer than you think to reach the end of the jetty.
The little 'trains' cost 15,000 but we got them down to 10,000 each.
One of the drinks sellers there at the stating point disappeared with our change so I really don't recommend using them, there are plenty of other places along the route to buy drinks and coconuts.
The 'train' is a simple open car with a 15hp motor powering it. The tracks are in shocking condition and we derailed once, it took a while for them to get it back on track.
It is a curious trip, not a huge amount to see but its good for the kids, you can tire them out with the long walk and fresh air!
I wouldn't recommend the Beaches there, way too much rubbish and minging stuff floating out of Barranquilla.

It's a small building full of history, surroundin still need to be fix... el caño del mercado ( magdalena river branch) smells terrible, but it's easy to imagine the people in 1920s walking around. It's a dangerous place to be alone, highly recommend go with locals

This was the main downtown church. Once abandoned and dark, now bright and beautifully renew. It is closed after mass but can request entrance by the church office during the day avoid Monday as the church is cleaned and no public access is allowed
