I loved this 2 hour walk to Guane! The landscapes are stunning and I met only one other person on my hike - a local from Guane.
Take the advice that I didn't and leave by 8am/9am - it gets very hot after this. I had planned to walk both ways but there is some very steep climbing on the way back; this plus the heat meant I did take the advice to take the bus back to Barichara. They leave every hour.
A very nice morning combined with a lunch in Guane before the bus back.

Exploraadores Colombia is consider one of the solidifided company, since it is coofunder Ariel Munoz, which is been involve in white water rafting and kayaking since 1997 with the first pioneer company in that time Rios y Canoas. In 2004, Ariel decided go to Costa Rica for get better knowledge about the world of white water, working with several companies and specializing in class 4 and 5! After 12 years in Costa Rica, Ariel decided move back to Colombia and open his own company with his family, working in a country as Costa Rica, you really have a different point of view about the ecoturisism. if you really want to pass a great timewith full-cover security, we will be waitting for you.... Exploradores's rule are : number 1: security, number 2: have fun what to bring: water shoes, extra clothes, sun-block, memory card(pics and videos including), sense of adventure
We did the rapids 3-4-5 with guide Eduardo on Rio Suarez. Very good instructions before we left off. An extra guy went with us in a kayak, in case somebody falls out, and to warn us where the rocks are. Somehow I couldn't hold on to the boat with my feet (the whole trip). In 1 rapid, I fell out of the boat. This only happened because Eduardo wanted to keep 'surfing on the wave' and make it extra exciting. There was a very strong current and it was scary as hell, I coulnd't find the surface. Finally I did and I could hold on to the kayak until they pulled me into the boat.
I really liked it, until I fell overboard. I think they shouldn't pull stunts like that when there are 3 out of 5 people on board with none or little experience!!
Apart from that: very nice experienced people! Nice fruit and lunch.
After 5 weeks, I'm still waiting for photos and videos from the trip... I really hope they will send them.

Quite interesting with head stones from many famalies over the lst 100 years or so. There is also a stone depiction of the last supper.

Well worth the climb to the top of town - not for the tacky stone statues but for its amazing views out over the huge canyon to the surrounding hills. Birds ride the thermals beside the park.

This is a state granted workshop producing products for sale which in turn contributes towards the funding of specialised training for local people, including handicrafts and pottery.
Many of the products are appealing and highly original and well worth a visit to both the workshops and the gallery shop.

A must if you are in Barichara and decide to take the "royal" trail down to Guane, which was actually part of the indigenous stone ways that interconnected many pre-hispanic places in the Andes, which was later "rediscovered" by a German ex-pat noble, and recently rebuilt by the local government. It takes one straight to the park where the lady of vision awaits in a simple yet marvelous stone colonial chapel. Check on the sides the gates to the old toll bridge down in the cayon which were recently brought up before the bastions collapse.
