Overpriced and under seasoned food, that Mama wouldn't be proud of...Portion size comes before quality and everything tastes like Heinz tomato soup. We were really disappointed after seeing such good reviews, I've had bolognaises out of a jar...☹️

Cosy Bistro set in Stroud in the heart of the Cotswolds. Lovingly prepared food influenced by Spanish, French and English ingredients and cooking styles. Always a warm welcome and attentive service.
Tried the early bird promotion on a Friday night, starter and a main for £12 before 19.00. Started with black pudding and chorizo salad, followed by burger in brioche bun. Excellent value, enjoyed the live guitarist who added to the ambience. Only slight frustration was that my wife's meals were not served at the same time, I asked the waitress to put mine back under the heat lamp until both were ready. Despite that, will definitely return.

I had not been to the Butchers Arms for quite a while and was pleasantly surprised.
The Pub has an excellent atmosphere and we found the staff to be friendly, welcoming and helpful. Rob, the duty manager was very attentive and couldn't do enough to help.
The Butchers Arms has a great ambience and there is also off road parking. They have a reasonable selection of fresh beers and some good wines.
There is a good selection on the menu, catering for all tastes including, beef, chicken and fish dishes, I had the steak which was very tender and tasty.
Price wise, the Butchers Arms is in the top end of mid-range but the quality and service was there and all the food is cooked fresh on site.
I highly recommend the Butchers Arms but recommend you book on weekends.

Set in the heart of the vibrant Cotswold town of Nailsworth, The Olive Tree provides a happy, welcoming atmosphere buzzing with life. From early morning, locals and visitors alike enjoy the Olive Tree experience. It's a great place to meet friends, do lunch or eat out in the evening. Come and see for yourself.
We were looking for somewhere special to celebrate 7 years together and have a nice meal and decided to try a local restaurant to us. For us as a couple it was very cosy and a perefect place to chill out and relax. We shared a starter of a mix of melba toast, dough balls and breads with a spicy tomato dip and guacamole. Our two main meals my husband having the spaghetti bolognese and myself having the salmon linguine were excellent and you could choose to either have a small or larger portion. If you are looking for somewhere special with beautifully cooked food this is definitely the place to go but it is very popular so I would say to book in advance.

Williams’s has a lovely setting in the centre of Nailsworth adjacent the picturesque clock tower. Being a specialist fishmonger it is no surprise that the restaurant serves the very best produce and, in our recent visit, with imagination and flair. Thanks to Sue and Mikey the chef.

Dinner here on a Sunday night whilst staying at The Painswick nearby - didn't want to eat there twice as food a bit overpriced. The Falcon seemed to have run out of most dishes apart from some specials - possibly due to Mother's Day. Not an issue as was going to order off the specials board anyway. Dishes arrived quickly and were well cooked. Not a particularly ambitious menu but decent pub grub (not quite gastropub). Pleasant staff and food and wine reasonably priced. Would recommend if in the area though probably wouldn't travel miles specially.

Booked here following the reviews we read. Slightly disappointed
if I am honest. A good choice of food but it came out a little too quickly to be freshly made considering it is a Bistro. I had the stroganoff and it came with rice and chips (perhaps its just me but I would have liked a salad). My fiancé had the wild boar steak which he demolished so I am guessing it was good.

We stopped here for lunch when on a short exploratory visit to Stroud - it hasn’t featured on our recent travels much except to pass through.
This very popular place serves interesting and tasty food based on our mushroom risotto (plus observation of other meals around us). The flat white coffee was pretty good too and although our service was slightly erratic I suspect that may have been a one-off.
We’ll certainly be back!

A last minute walk with friends and sunday lunch. The hosts couldn't do enough to accommodate us, and the food was delicious. Book ahead - it gets busy!

I'd read some reports on TripAdvisor about slow, indifferent service at Olivas but had also read that the food was good, so on a day trip to Painswick, we made our way there for lunch. Now I've been to cafes and restaurants both big and...MoreThank you for taking the time to review Olivas in a detailed manner. I think you have described the essence of what a day can be for us.
