Wirtshaus im Hofgassl

A charming small romatic place with excellent wine and a small but fine series of food. I loved the lamb with polenta and the pancake coated salmon with safran risotto was also very nice, and an eyecatcher. A bit expensive though.

Taubenkobel

The Taubenkobel restaurant is one of the best in the country. And for those who are hesitant to enter such spheres, the light version in the form of a pretty bistro is just the ticket. Unique in the world: a cosmopolitan haven in a small village in Burgenland. When crossing the threshold of taubenkobel it is clear that its owners have created an unique atmosphere, a cosmopolitan haven in a small village in Burgenland, half an hour away from Vienna. This charming 19th century vintner's house is dedicated not only to well-being but also to the appreciation of art and the surrounding nature. Add to this the remarkable cuisine of the Grand Chef Walter Eselbock and his son-in-law Alain Weissgerber who masterfully craft local products into sophisticated creations. Eveline Eselbock will enchant you with her selection of wines. Barbara Eselbock, daughter of Eveline and Walter, will welcome you with her charming attitude. 11 Individual rooms and suites which are lovingly equipped with selected furniture and accessories from all over the world will make you feel like staying at a good old friends house. An outdoor natural pool, the enchanted garden, a sauna and an additional more casual restaurant the "Greisslerei" will round off your stay.

Excellent restaurant. Staff were very attentive, explained every dish when they arrived. The food was excellent and presentation very unique. It was quite an experience. Peter Scheiber of Weinguide took us there; he knows all the good places. It is a bit out of the way but definitely worth the visit.

We ate here 3 times on a recent trip to the area. The fish dishes were amazing, the meat was also good, and it was very well presented. The outdoor courtyard is very pretty, and the inside area with its decoration of old wine bottles is very cozy. The wine served is so good we took 6 bottles home to England!

Haydnkeller Restaurant & Pizzeria

Reviewed By IDea1 - Austria

Actually we were sailing into Rust and started our tour off at Seehotel Rust, were we left our boat. From there it was just a few minutes walk into the center of Rust where you may find this restaurant. We decided to eat there as it lies within a nice place which makes you feel comfortable. Of course we already expected it to be some sort of touristic as well because of its location but on rare occasions residents want to feel like strangers as well ;-)
We made use of the "Schanigarten" in front of the restaurant which was sheltered with awnings, which was useful as it started to drizzle lateron.
The (hungarian) waiters were due to the fact that they work in a touristic area still quite nice (but not more than necessary) and drinks were served immediatly after ordering. Even for the food we had not to wait very long. We had Zander, Tafelspitz, a small Pizza and chicken nuggets. The fish was o.k., but the Semmelkren of the Tafelspitz was not good at all and I was more than disappointed about that, as it usually has a very good taste. Even the Tafelspitz itself was not what I expected. At least with the chicken nuggets they didn't do anything wrong. The Pizza was quite o.k. as well. Actually tastes are different but with some dishes, like Tafelspitz, you simply have to reach a certain standard. Another aspect which showed that it was not a "real" Austrian restaurant: we had to pay for additional "Ketchup" extra (€ 0,60), which is usually never the case in restaurants. I found this really poor when I spotted it on the invoice lateron.
All in all we paid € 60,-- for 2 adults and 2 small kids.
After all I would not go there again as there are a lot more restaurants and Heurige in Rust to visit which are typically Austrian (or better call it "typical for Rust") and have excellent food and friendly service.
Anyway you may check their homepage: www.haydnkeller.at

While staying at Hotel Ohr, we ended up eating at this lovely restaurant several times. We especially enjoyed the typical German mixed salads and a house special of spaetzle with pumpkin and cheese. Delicious! Prices were good and the patio atmosphere was perfect on a late summer evening!!

Gut Oggau

Reviewed By Francesco M - Vienna, Austria

Amazing wines, rich, elegant and structured (especially the red) and beautifully served in a great location. It was one of my best escape-to-the-countryside trips from Vienna. I was there in a rainy day. They have a nice garden outside and great place indoor with a lot of atmosphere and elegance (where I enjoyed the great wines served in proper glasses). It is also suitable for family as they have few farm amimals outside (goats and hens). I will definitely go back.

We enjoyed salads, smoked eel and fresh local fish for dinner in the cozy courtyard of this local restaurant. The town is nesting place for families of pelicans -- and you can see several nests on the rooftops. Come for the pelicans and enjoy the lovely local food. Nothing fancy, but fresh food served efficiently at a very reasonable price. What more can you ask?
