Steinbock Hotel Restaurant

Reviewed By Jerry G - Hoover, Alabama

My wife and I arrived late (approx 9:15 PM) into Lauterbrunnen and very few places were open that served food. The one place that was open anywhere near our hotel was the Steinbock hotel restaurant. At that time of night they were only serving pizza. I dont know when they stop serving other options. Since we were hungry, and had not other options, this was more that fine with us. The staff was pleasant, and the pizza was good. Also having just arrived from Germany, we had no Swiss currency, however the hotel took creadit cards. Prices were reasonable.

Restaurant Hotel Brienz

We ordered a place in the restaurant after staying in a hotel nearby. We read good recommendations on the tripadvisor and this is the reason we choose it.
The interior design is simple and can be better and the place don't have view to brienz lake.
But the food was amazing. we ordered 4 different dish and all of them were delicious, well crafted and made. real gourmet food.
The only thing missing was better wine to consume via glasses (0.1L).
The prices are the same as regular swiss dinner (30-40 CHF for main course)

Looking around for a last highlight of our ski holiday, we found the Hotel and Restaurant Kemmeriboden-Bad.
The Restaurant is really "off the route" in the "Emmental" in Central Switzerland. Not really knowing what to expect from the restaurant we arrived at Kemmeriboden-Bad - which can't be missed, since it's just one road in the valley. Parking is not an issue - tons of free space in front of the hotel.
The menu is small, mostly local dishes. We ordered "the winter Genuss menu" which is a four course dish, starter, soup, main course and desert. All waiting times are moderate and expected for fresh cooking.
The Service is organized and differ from other local restaurants and hotels in friendliness and professionality!
The inside of the restaurant is what you expect from an location like this - cosy and warm.
Let me tell you - the food was awesome, unexpected, full of new flavors, rich and nicely presented.
Not say anything else - just go an try it!
At bright light, there is shadow - the pricing is rather on the upper limit, specially for the location. Price level is right at similar places in Zurich or Geneva - but still worth the money!

What can be better when Skiing, or walking in the Mountains than to arrive at The Hilten. The welcome is always warm and friendly, the atmosphere rustic and the food - good hearty mountain food. I rely on the Cafe Zwetschge Chelli to warm me and ease my path back down the mountain - then I can do it all again. Hans and the whole Family provide a very well run restaurant. As ever - Thank you Hans. Jessica and Paul,

Seehotel Baren Brienz

Reviewed By sir_keith_26 - Seattle, Washington

The Seehotel Baren Brienz is located right on the Promenade, with an outdoor Terrace that has lovely views of the Brienz Lake and the Alps to the south. In spite of this, the restaurant rarely had more than a handful of customers the entire time we were in Brienz, a situation in marked contrast to the Steinbock Hotel Restaurant, just a few blocks away, and on the ‘wrong’ side of the street.
You get a feeling for why this might be so the minute you walk in the door. While the Steinbock is warm and inviting, the Seehotel seems a bit tired and, well, tacky. I realize that Brienz is home to a famous wood carving school, but a life-size wooden bear with a pipe and a stein in the entryway? This kind of kitsch seems out of place in Switzerland.
And then there was the language problem. Our server spoke not a whit of Swiss German, so we tried German, but we were not able to converse effectively in that language either. Finally we settled on English. Fair enough, but decidedly odd. Our server explained that he was from eastern Europe, like most of the staff at the restaurant, and was still struggling with the language(s).
Perhaps the food would save the day? Not so. Although the menu was similar to those of most other restaurants in town- various meats in cream sauces with rösti, fried fish from the lake, etc., it was not up to the same standards. There are better places to dine in Brienz than the Seehotel Baren Brienz.

Cafe Walz, part of Hotel Walz, is located on the lakefront at walking distance from the boat and the train stations. They have a nice terrasse overlooking the lake. Being there on a Friday, we went for the deep fried perch fillets with the buffet salad as starter. Perch fillets were fresh and crispy. Staff was friendly and efficient. Our waitress even made the effort to speak in French whereas it is not widely used in this part on the Bern canton.

You include the establishment under hotels, but the restaurant is open to the public and should be reviewable independently.

We were amazed with the size of our room--huge, which was well furnished and comfortable. It afforded a view of the Lake of Brienz. We were driven up the hillside from the lakefront railway station in the hotel's small electric vehicle, but without baggage we were able to walk up and down without difficulty.
Breakfast buffet was excellent, and the reception staff was friendly and efficient. I would go back to the Lindenhof gladly.

Le Tapis Rouge

Vegan-Vegetarian label should not discourage you from trying this high cuisine experience. You don't have to be Vegan-Vegetarian to enjoy the surprises and the unique tastes that this chef offers. The view to the turquois lake is uncomparable. The waiter is a kind guy who adds to the experience with his explainations.
But beware: it's a 3 hours dinner. When you're free to leave, they offer you a surprise dessert that requires 35 more minutes to come. The restaurant was filled in 7 tables only. Now: if it is a slow-food concept, say a very slow food concept, the Customers should be at least informed. I perceived irritation in several guests. Why does this brilliant chef impose his timing-concept on people? A bit of arrogance? Part of the show? You may enjoy this restaurant a lot, if the 3 hours is acceptable for you, but I remain having no doubt on what only 7 tables are filled here, while the "Cascades" restaurant is filled with all the other guests -not a matter of taste.
A warning to the managers of the Hotel: in many properties, high profit margins lay in the bar-services. 3 hours & sleep makes you typically skip the night-cap stop at the wonderful bar in the lounge...

We used our Bernese Oberland Passes to take a train from Wengen to Brienz, a lakeside village. After going to the wood-carving museum and walking the lakeside streets, we stopped to dine outdoors at Bino’s Pizzeria. Our waitress had trouble translating and explaining the menu so Bino himself took the orders. He served delicious lasagna Bolognese and anchovy pizza. I had two Italian Chiantis and wife had milk. Our lunch cost was CHF 45.20.

Wonderful and kean waitresses. Very good service. Typical cheese and ham with tasty whole bread. Good fried fish but a little too expensive. Romantic place for a couple: tables are located few meters far from lake shore.
