Il passatore is one of the few restaurants in Sondrio which we found open in the evening.
I had dinner with someone who is allergic to gluten. This wasn't a problem - we were just told we'd wait for some time because they had to change the water used for boiling.
This meant that:
1- they knew what an allergy is and what to do, even to avoid cross-contamination - professional.
2- they were ready to run the "extra mile" for this - customer-oriented.
3- they did it without fuss - gentle.
Believe me: none of these three can be taken for granted.
We had an excellent risotto with cheese, and I also had a delicious home-made chocolate dessert. The menu is quite short, but I found dishes for all tastes - and there is pizza too!
Service was courteous, polite and with a smile. The person who was with me felt at ease, despite the allergy - again, something which, alas, doesn't happen all too often.
The ambiance wasn't anything special - but the food was!
So, yes, I can really recommend this restaurant!

The atmosphere of this restaurant is extraordinary and magical. The gentle roar of a waterfall ( visible by a large window ) accompanies the excellent and well presented dishes. The food is really good and the staff is very professional and kind. The dining rooms are set in an old building thanks to a superfine restoration that mixes the ancient stone building tradition and the modern use of steel and glass. Excellent quality - price ratio. Highly recommended!

We stumbled across this fascinating place en route to Sondrio....we never did make it as found it so good here!
We were looking for so,where to eat...this tiny ancient place has a small informal pizzeria and a gastronomic restaurant. On the day we visited we had a superb platter of cold meat and cheeses plus salad.Superbly presented and accompanied by local wine.
Afterwards we were treated to a tour of the main restaurant which is carved out of rock and goes three floors down, so almost cellar like individual dining areas, beautifully furnished with antiques.
Cannot comment on food here as not tasted but menu looked very good, expensive but probably worth it.
Would definitely recommend and would go again if in that area.

Il Poggio, run by the Gianola family for over 30 years, is set in the heart of Valtellina, 5 km from Sondrio. Its warm and cozy halls are decorated in antique style, plunging you into a pleasant atmosphere . The restaurant can be booked for small banquets, celebrations and ceremonies.
This restaurant is the neighbour of hotell Retici Balzi. Views are spectacular. Divied into a couple of big dining rooms and a Terrace. Really good local wines available, also for purchase. Food a bit heavier here than we are used to from Piemonte, but after all, we're close to the Alps. Not exactly contemporary, but very good!

Don't let the owner comment on the title put you off. The service is very nice, the food is for gods and the desserts are oh-my-lord good. At the time of paying you'll have to face the woman at the cashier, but that's it.
The ice across the street is just as good as the tiramissu at Vesuvio, so... your choice!

The Spaghetteria - Pizzeria " Middle Earth " was born December 12, 1982 , founded by brothers Michael and Mary Vicenza Chiodo . The restaurant's name comes from the book " The Lord of the Rings ." Rrimodernata and expanded in 1990 , began as spaghetti and pizza , is now known for its cuisine expressed ( ie without pre-cooking ) , for its meat and for its fresh fish .. As well as for its pizzas !! Since October 2009, the venue was moved to p.Le Bertacchi , 78 ( station square FS ) in a new home !! About 140 places .. A large dehoors open all year and as always with all the passion that the family Chiodo has put into his work !! Open all year even in the morning as a coffee bar .

We've been to Sondrio a number of times, and eaten at some great places there nearby, but we did not know about Il Locale even though we'd walked by it many times on different trips. Well, we finally tried it out with our son and his wife and our two grandchildren, and we all had an incredibly wonderful time. The food was simply superb, and it is hard to find bad wine in the Valtellina. The regional dishes were outstanding, and it was a treat as they are just about non-existent outside that area. The only drawback was that it was hot inside. I still rate the 'atmosphere' as very good, as it's quite attractive inside, with the old stone walls & ceiling.

Totally love this pasticcieria and would have to vote it No.1 in the north of Italy! Wonderful latte macchiato which goes down well with a pistacchio brioche ... grazie mille! non vedo l'ora la prossima ....

Whenever we travel to Sondrio we never miss an early afternoon or late night gelato at the K2. There is an outdoor area to sit and enjoy your gelato, an aperitivo or a coffee. In the cooler months you can still enjoy K2 fare inside.

Located in the heart of the city at the foot of the bell tower, Trattoria Cima 11 has been offering traditional local dishes in a simple and familiar atmosphere for the last fifty years. Its specialties are the most representative of Valtellina's cuisine: Taroz, Pizzoccheri, Polenta Taragna and Chisciöl as well as other delicious Lombard dishes such as soup or stewed Tripe. To end a delicious meal you can indulge in one of the restaurant's homemade desserts such as apple pie, chocolate cake or jam tart.
If you wish to visit this restaurant - make a reservation it can be busy. The staff ,service and food excellent. The menu is not in English however staff will try to help you with your choice.
