Auberge Baker

I had not been to this restaurant in years. But on this trip we happened to have rented a condo that was just a couple of miles from there. We decided that after a long day on the road that we should re-acquaint ourselves. We were six people and they set us up in our own little room. Both the service and the food were very good. I don't see Atlantic Char on the menu very often. Everyone in the party was quite satisfied with their meals. A little out of the way if you are in Quebec City proper; but worth the trip. It is a charming restaurant in a charming location.

Auberge La Camarine

After spending the afternoon hiking at Mont-Ste-Anne, we decided to have dinner at La Camarine. The dining room of this historic inn is warm and cosy, and even though our waitress was fairly new at her job, she definitely made up for her lack of experience by being most attentive and friendly. I had the soup of the day - a tomato bisque served with tuna risotto, which was a nice touch - and the cornish hen as my main course. I'd easily compare this meal to some of the best I've had in the Old City area. For dessert, I tried the rosemary creme brulee (flavours vary daily), and it was beyond delicious! I liked that all dishes were nicely presented and that the three-course table d'hote was only 35$.

Le St-Bernard

The food here is really good - soups, salads, grilled meat, pizzas. We went for lunch, which became our big meal of the day (int he European tradition) when we saw the lunch specials. Soup, salad, primary protein (meat or whatever) and starch (rice, in my case) for about CAD17 or 18. The specials change daily depending on what the chef makes. All the regular menu items are also available, of course. The day we were there (a very unbusy Monday), they had vegetable soup (tomato base w celery carrots, onions, turnips), a pizza special, a beef special (grilled filet mignon pieces au poivre on a skewer w rice), and at least one fish special. Food was very good. Coffee was good. Service was excellent (again, a non-busy Monday). The resto-pub is attached to a convenience store and a Petro-Canada station, so you can fill several needs in one place.

We went for lunch and had burgers and pizza. The food itself was very good but the service was very slow. No fault of the waitresses as I found there should have been 2 more waitresses for the amount of people eating at this establishment. They were polite and did there best. They had to serve customer and also clean the tables. Maybe they should hire a busboy. Decor - very plain looking place. Again - I must state - the food was very good.

We ate here twice during a week stay in the area. Unlike other reviewers we had no difficulty speaking to the waitresses in English. The chicken and ribs were delicious. During the week they have specials which include a appetizer, meal, drink and a desert. Meals cost $17 to $27 depending on what you get. The taxes are what makes meals expensive. I only wish they had these restaurants in the USA!

Good food, friendly service (Steve) and nice ambiance. Enjoyed not having to drive into town to a great restaurant. A well balanced menu at fair prices. A little loud, but enjoyed the evening.
Great chocolate fondue and appreciated the complimentary slice of sugar pie for my wife's birthday.

Le Marie Beaupre

Reviewed By revjeff - North Easton, Massachusetts

We stopped here while visiting the basilica at Ste. Anne de Beaupre. We should have chosen one of the other restaurants in the area instead. The waitress spoke no English (which is not here fault, obviously); but it made ordering difficult. We ordered the roast chicken (pointed to the picture in the menu three times); she brought us chicken sandwiches. But she was good about correcting the error. The chicken took forever to arrive, but it was very fresh and tasty-- a bit on the basic side, but no complaints, and a very ample serving. But then-- disaster-- a tour bus arrived! The staff was completely overwhelmed; we were forced to fen for ourselves. We fetched the water pitcher from the sideboard ourselves; finally got a different waitress to serve our (frozen) desserts (which were included in the dinner, otherwise we would have skipped it); then we had to search out someone to pay our bill so we could leave. Oh, well-- there was plenty of chicken, so we didn't go away hungry at least!

Auberge de la Basilique

Reviewed By David J P - Maine

Good wholesome food served cafeteria style. The menu changes daily and always has two or three main entrees. You pay for what you have on your tray and Seating is at several tables within the large room. This restaurant is at the entrance to the Auberge where you can stay for a reasonable cost while visiting the Basilica across the street. The place is usually booked solid with busloads of pilgrims coming the Shrine during the summer.
