The food was strange a not tasty. Service were trying good but that's not enough. I don't have much more to say, besides I will not re-visit this restaurant.

Visited the restaurant today , ordered two plates with herrings
135 DKK for one plate , all we got was 3 kind of herrings and all 3 were direct from the shop shelf , that is not what we expected , we will not stop there again.

Despite the fact that is was a busy fridaynight (with a large familydinner with 20+ attending), dinner was warm, tasty and served in a reasonable time. Somewhat understaffed, but very efficient, never seen the waiters walk that fast with so many plates simultaniously... Good variation in menus, meat, fish, chicken, veggy. Large portions, tasty, traditional. Loved the place. Recommended!

This hotel was built in the early seventies, and has not been changed ever since. Even the staff is the same I guess. They serve traditional danish, and the female chef is in total control of the kitchen. As a matter of fact she is alone there.
Remember to make a reservation woth view to the street.

Danish food is great, but a bit heavy on the meat for me. This place has slick service and outside tables (but watch out for smokers), and a menu that includes pasta dishes, moussaka and pizzas as well as the standard fare of steaks, schnitzel, meatballs, burgers, etc. Nothing special, but good at what it does.

Jeg bestilte en stjernekaster og fik hvad jeg havde forventet. Et stjerneskud men på Langelandsk. Fin betjening selv om vi kom fra Københavnstrup:)

Went there in my summer holiday with my wife, 2 kids and a dog. We were all welcome, nice atmosphere, good and plenty food, even the dog was welcome. We sat in their garden at the back of the resturant, nice place.

We visited Generalen during a small road trip in our native country. We sat outside on the Terrace right next to a big lawn which is situated between Tranekær Castle (an impressive, towering, and ancient castle ... still in the count's posession and hence not often open to the public) and its moat. Inside, the restaurant is also very nice. The restaurant is situated in the stables reserved for the nobleman's horses. These are now turned into very interesting booths.
The food was great. We had steaks and the children had spaghetti bolognese. The spaghetti was served to the children's liking: the sugo separate from the pasta and some vegetables served cold on the side. Our steaks were well done and not rare as ordered, but they tasted great all the same, and the children received complementary desserts as a compensation for the overcooking. The dessert was home made ice cream and the adult version was also great.
Finally, the staff was helpful and nice.

Run by a coupke with some assistants. They are very stressed - hence there is no such thing as service. Food comes from the freezer directly into the boiling oil (more or less everything ends up there). It´s classic Fast Food with a local touch. OK, but nothing special. But the location - directly at the harbour is fantastic. You can sit outside (inside you cannot sit as there is a standing bar only to order). If you drink beer go for the bottle as I have experienced 2 times that the draft beer was sour.

Stopped here on the way to Humble to have an ice cream. That day they had double up on the ice cream, so we ended up by having 4 scoops in a cone instead, this made it really hard to get through it, but it was so delicious that we almost managed.
The shop bakes its own waffle cones which are really good (not like the cardboard-like industrial types) and they have a fine selection of ice creams - my favourites are "Skildpadde" (Turtle - which is a danish specialty - a large creme-filled chocolate) and "rum and raisins".
The ice cream is typical Danish ice cream, so do not expect Italian style ice cream but something with more cream in it.
Do not cheat yourself from "guf" (whipped egg whites with sugar and sometimes marmalade) on top together with strawberry jam. Die-hards go for "bund-guf", which is also "guf" in the cone before the scoops of ice cream (can come handy as it somehow prevents the melted ice from dripping out in the bottom of the cone).
On summer days the place can be crowded and inside its very hot, especially when they are baking the waffle cones.
But they do make great ice creams, highly recommendable.
