Porthleven (/ˌpɔːrθˈlɛvən/) is a town, civil parish and fishing port near Helston in Cornwall. It is the most southerly port on the island of Great Britain, and was originally developed as a harbour of refuge, when this part of the Cornish coastline was recognised as a black spot for wrecks in days of sail. Nearby Loe Bar was particularly infamous, with swimmers and surfers being warned off the area. Porthleven has many large areas of social and council housing. An electoral ward called Porthleven and Helston South also exists. The population at the 2011 census was 3,059.

Even Decanter Magazine has praised it!There is a lovely bar area where guests can enjoy fine wine, cocktails, cold beer or a warming digestif.Don’t forget to book a room so you can truly relax!
We had booked at Kota on a cold Friday night in early December. It was busy - at least for west Cornwall, well out-of-season. The three-course, set meal at £25.00 was excellent in quality and value. The chowder starter and the hake main course with a curried sauce and accompaniments were particularly good. The young staff who greeted us and served us were friendly and engaging. They know about the food and they know how to deal with people and they helped to make it a very enjoyable evening. Kota is a great asset to Porthleven. We loved it.

The freshest ingredients sourced from the best local suppliers. A relaxed, waterside atmosphere where you can sit back and relax. Service that's memorable for all the right reasons. At Amelies, Porthleven and sister company Gourmet Picnics we share the same ethos which runs through everything we do. Come and experience it for yourself. Please note in the winter season we do close on a Monday day and Tuesday day, re-opening Tuesday evening.
Visited Amelie’s during the week with my parents having eaten there previously one Sunday lunchtime. Unfortunately very lacking in attention to service this time.
For a Friday evening service you would expect the staff to roughly know what they are doing. And to be fair we did feel sorry for the 2 young ladies who really were trying their best. It was obvious that they were new - didn’t know what catch of the day was, got our order wrong, starters turned up with mains..... just lots of little things that amounted to a bit of a farce to be honest. We saw at least 2 tables of people walk out after drinks as the food took so long to arrive. Something I see that has been mentioned on other reviews.
In summary location stunning, menu looks appealing, dire service and fairly average food compared to other restaurants in Porthleven. And one bug bear of mine, do not serve food up on wooden boards. A plate works well!
We stayed in Porthleven for a week and didn’t bother returning and won’t go back to Amelie’s again unless the service improves. A real shame as on a previous holiday we really enjoyed our Sunday lunch.

Lovely friendly locals pub with beautiful sea views from a Terrace, serving home cooked food, locally brewed ales and a good selection of largers and other beverages.
Dropped in for a bite to eat one dark and cold night, it was very very quiet night with two to three couples like us, sat in the farthest corners whispering... The food was ok, good sized portions, typical pub type fare. The staff seemed...MoreIt is very quiet during the week at this time of year. Glad the staff tried to engage you come at the weekend it’s a different story ?⭐️

Another visit to this lovely little restaurant. This time for breakfast. The quality and the price of the breakfast choices is excellent. The staff are lovely and I can't recommend this place more highly than I do now. Don't forget to book in busy periods. Best place to eat in town!

The Harbour Inn, Porthleven, is a lively pub situated on the harbour serving fantastic food all year round using fresh local produce. The decor is a comfortable blend of old and new, creating an atmosphere which is relaxed, informal and individual. The en-suite hotel style bedrooms are cosy and inviting, blending comfort with character, some enjoy sea views over the harbour. Located, on the Lizard Peninsula (near Helston) with its beautiful Beaches, historic harbour and quaint narrow streets of fishermen's homes is the ideal location from which to explore historic Cornwall.
Proper pub food. Nothing fancy but great value of nicely presented pub favourites. Good sized helpings and all the ingredients are fresh and appealing. I love lambs liver and was not disappointed by the offering. Food was hot and served promptly. Service was just right....MoreThank you for your review, we are delighted you enjoyed the Lambs liver and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Porthleven's favourite cafe, coffee shp and pizza restaurant. Nauti is open daily 9am to 5pm daily extending to 9pm in the school summer holidays. Go Nauti Pizza restaurant is open 12pm to 9pm Friday and Saturday's and daily in the school half term.
Considering the weather was typically British early Spring fare, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Modern clean, friendly with good coffee and cakes for all in our group.
Even though there was a very strong winds combined with continuous rain we ‘sheltered’ here for an hour with a marvellous view of the harbour. With a log fire close by it was very cosy and the crashing waves getting bigger by the minute added to the whole experience.

A lovely pub by the harbour. Good Cornish beer and excellent food.
Gorgeous crab Sandwich. The pan-fried salmon was beautifully cooked, well-presented and the flavours were wonderful.
Lovely staff.
The place is small and cosy. You might be lucky to get a table.
Top marks !!!

Kota Kai occupies the whole of the top floor of Celtic House and has unbeatable views across Porthleven harbour and beyond. Almost every table in the restaurant benefits from these views as the tables run alongside the many windows at the front of the building. The food is simpler than at Kota (our big sister restaurant), but all great quality using local ingredients and there is a fantastic variety of dishes including oysters, mussels, steak, burger and Asian dishes. We also have a selection of 'mini Kai', i.e. small plates such as salt & pepper squid, beef carpaccio, ham & cheese croquettes and mini fishcakes.
We went here for dinner last week, while spending a few days in Cornwall. First impressions were good, a buzzy atmosphere and friendly staff. However it then went a little downhill. We were in a sideroom, it was a busy night, which was really cold. So much so that most of us kept our coats on. They completely forgot my sons drink and the service was dreadfully slow.
On the upside, the food was generally good and, when we voiced concerns, the manager came to our table immediately. She just apologized and made a deduction from the bill. No excuses, no condecending attitude. I was seriously impressed by that and would visit again. We all have off days.

Our first time tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday. Absolutely blown away by the quality of food. We usually go to the Porthminster, St Ives for special occasions but never again. Much better menu/food/service and portion size was double that of Porthminster! Thank you so much! We will be back ! Please keep the chef happy!
