Try to find a table bear the window where you'll be able to see Rio Lima. In sunny days it's a good restaurant to have a lunch. Fresh, well decorated, and with very good food.

Recently had an amazing lunch in Mercearia da Vila with a group of friends - the food was very tasty, unbelievable "petiscos" recommended by the staff (which is the most attentive). Perfect place for lunch. The place itself is very cute, worth having a look! Had a lot of food and drinks and the total bill was a bit less than 10€ per person!

I will say this to start, and in short: this is a good restaurant, servicing honest homemade type food. So, this is my experience at this place:
POSITIVE POINTS:
We arrived for lunch, and as the weather was great – we sat outside, overlooking the river… which added to the feeling of this place.
Staff members were amazing, and immediately made us feel at home. Such a friendly attitude, as normal in Northern Portugal.
Well… we ordered lamb, oven baked with baked potatoes and pan friend veggies… helped with a jar of local red wine. Food came within a decent period of time, and to put it in simple terms… it was amazing. I will say that my grandmother made perfect lamb… and this was really close to what I used to eat at her place. Really tasted homemade, and was simply a joy to eat. The local red wine (verde) was nice and fresh… and complemented to food perfectly.
Well… there was still space for the desert… also HOMEMADE… which hit the spot perfectly, satisfying me to the limits. At the end of the meal, expresso coffee – rounded off the perfect meal.
When the bill came, I thought that it was fair for what we had. My “damage” was EURO. 40 for two people within the above explained meal. REALLY fair for the quality and service that we got here.
NEGATIVE POINTS:
We were relatively early… so no problem in getting a table outside. Within 15 minutes of being here… the restaurant filled up with busloads of people. This is of course good for the restaurant’s business… but got a little cramped at the end of the day. Please don’t get me wrong… not complaining, since it was perfect meal… just needed to find something to mention in this section.
SUMMING UP:
YES!!!
I will return to this place next time I am in town. If I recommend this place???… also a definite YES.

From the entrance to the interior décor it felt like Spain until you looked at the menu
And started to eat the regional cuisine. The atmosphere was Spain and the food was
Truly Portuguese. The food, service, and ambience were all extremely pleasant to the
Eye and felt warm and friendly. Very good comfort food and service. This restaurant
is well located and centralize, near the river and historical places on narrow and quiet
Street.

This restaurant serves steak and or cod fish. It is the best place in northern Portugal for both. It serves the best steak I have eaten. The service is very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The steak and the cod fish are cooked over an open fire which gives them great flavor. The portions are generous and the value is great. A great night out. We visit often for all these reasons.

Although we had a set meal on two consecutive nights we were able to vary our choices. The fish option was very good. The meat option was a large veal steak probably under done for most tastes and with an amount of gristle. The vinho da casa, both red and white, was very drinkable. Vegetable soup was hot and tasty on the first night and hot but bland on the second night. Fruit salad dessert was good. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

As a group of three friends we had a splendid first trial at this restaurant on a Sunday lunch. The restaurant’s site and setting is fabulous! The refurbished stone house where the restaurant functions was well recovered with good architectural taste. The surrounding Gardens are very well kept, enriching one’s experience. The main interior of the restaurant has a great layout and the fireplace located at the entrance is fantastic! It is beautiful, as well as functional - it warms up the restaurant making it cozy. “A Carvalheira” is very sought out, thus one absolutely has to book in advance. The staff are friendly and helpful. For starters we chose the seasoned boiled squid tapas, as well as the cured ham, accompanied by “broa” - all splendid! For main course we chose the roasted pork’s leg, served with roasted potatoes, delicious white rice and green sauted vegetables. Absolutely divine! For dessert we had “pudim Abade de Priscos” (a delicious conventual sweet pudding), as well as cheese. It was a “heaven on earth” Sunday lunch well savoured! Highly recommend this Restaurant for food lovers!

Went there with my girlfriend to have a soup and some fresh fish, but the fish was too fresh, indeed some bits were still raw... Despite that it was tasty and the environment was friendly.
You do have to pay for Ponte de Lima being such a touristy place and for the restaurant being a landmark. Note that payment by card wasn't working when I went (last week) and worst of all they didn't make reference on arrival, so be prepared with cash just in case ;)

A return trip where, once again, we ate veal steaks, did not disappoint. Their complimentary cheese pasty type starters, along with plenty of vegetables, including half a cabbage, is one of the things that sets this restaurant apart from many of the others. One of the few restaurants in the town that serves 'Talude' wine, which accompanies the steak perfectly. Friendly, helpful attention from our waitress.

Ate here with our Backroads Hiking group (there were 15 of us) for a traditional Portuguese meal. All courses were served family-style. We sat outside on their patio which was delightful, except when someone nearby would start smoking. The food was excellent - fresh bread, salad, steak and seafood entrees, and luscious desserts. With family-style, you get to taste a little of everything! The restaurant is a short walk over the old Roman Bridge from the center of town in Ponte de Lima.
