Pirmasens is an independent town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, near the border with France. It was famous for the manufacture of shoes. The surrounding rural district was called Landkreis Pirmasens from 1818 until 1997, when it was renamed to Südwestpfalz.

We took the 30 minute drive down to Pirmasens from K-town and wondered if it was worth the trip. We found that it certainly was. The dining room is very elegant and the Waitstaff is quite attentive. We started off with a delicious serving of bread, then ordered from the entree menu. They did have an English-language menu that was very helpful with the detailed menu items, was broken down into sections of appetizers, fish, multi-course meals, poultry, pork, beef, wild game, etc. It was nice that they offered a complimentary trip to the salad bar with the entrees. I tried the corn salad with goat cheese in proscuitto (OUTstanding!) and my wife had the seasonal pumpkin soup which she enjoyed. We tried several different types of entrees - the beef strips in dijon sauce and potato pancakes, the lamb with scalloped potatoes, and the pork tenderloin wrapped in ham. Each was great, but we'll be back to have the lamb again and again. For desert, there were many options and we tried the green apple sorbet in sparkling wine, the plum tart and the creme brûlée. Wow, what a great dining experience, course after course!

Definitely the best food in Pirmasens! Everything on the menu tastes great ! Service is a little slow and everything is cooked freshly so don't come here if you want a quick meal .

My husband and I have enjoyed many lunches there after having been introduced to the place by my late papa, Nicki and his friend Horst. The food represents an honest and down to earth cuisine, no frills whatsoever. Great service, great prices. The schnaps one can purchase there is one of a kind. Check it out, it'll be worth your while...

I love all the ice creams in Eiscafe Venetia! Is a large choice and still difficult not to find something you do like! Mine favorite is Amareno! Also I love the coffee drinks, which are mixed with a variety of liqueurs. Having a terasse outside is great to enjoy the sunset over there! They work also Sundays. The personal speaks: Italian, German and French! The prices are reasonable and in rapport with the quality I find it great!

Da Mario is a fantastic restaurant with a wide range of dishes, all of which I really enjoyed. I've been to Pirmasens twice and visited Da Mario a number of times w my girlfriend, and was only impressed more with each visit!
Highly recommend Da Mario for any discerning traveler, couple or even family who want high quality food, great ingredients, lovely staff at affordable prices. Looking forward to my next stop in whenever I'm next in town!!

It's difficult to know what to expect, as one mounts the stairs to the fairly unprepossessing interior of this restaurant. An overwhelming air of fried food assailed our nostrils and the general impression was of a basic, unpromising establishment. However, the food is quite another matter - delicious, generous and superbly cooked! The staff is friendly and welcoming but if our visit was anything to go by the Da Siro is popular with locals and it might pay to book - especially on a Friday or Saturday evening. Our choices were well prepared and excellent in flavour and the bill was very reasonable for what we had. There is only one downside and that is the overarching smell of fry-up which lingered in our clothes for several days after our visit, despite airing. There did not seem to be much ventilation to prevent the kitchen smells permeating throughout the restaurant.

This restaurant is somewhat hidden in a modern-ish building, but it's well worth seeking out! The atmosphere is typically German - the meals of excellent quality and gargantuan in size. We had Sudhauspfanne (medallions of pork with sauteed potatoes in a delicious sauce), served in individual flying pans for each diner, plus a generous mixed salad. The beer is brewed on the premises and is excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

We ate there at lunch, while prices are very expensive (Starters for 10-25 €, mains over 30€) food was excellent. Classic European/French with a modern twist. The paprika soup was amazing! The restaurant itself is very pleasant and designed like a fancy (in a good way) rustic wine cellar. Overall a very good experience. Highly recommend!

Very busy place, international crowd. Too bad smoking inside is tolerated. I wasn't aware that people can still smoke inside pubs in Germany...?
