First, Nyiregyhaza doesn't have what I'd call a restaurant culture and so the quality of restaurants are generally fairly average. This restaurant falls above average. The food is always well done, presentation is very good but the portions are large! This is a period restaurant and aside from the full armor and a few other bits and bobs they went cheap on the decor which makes it a bit cheesy. I'd certainly return.

We ordered Goulash and a typical meal from the village (Kocsord). Both were exquisite! The waitress could explain perfectly the dishes to us in english and the price was beyond reasonable, less than 7€ per person. If you have the chance to try this restaurant, don't miss it!!

John's Pub in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, Dózsa György utca 7. This is a different restaurant from John Bull's Pub also in Nyiregyhaza.
We were there with kids. We wait so much for the food, but there were not much gest.
My food was cold and average. My wife and doughter have ordered Cesar salats but it was everything else but not Cesar salat.
So I do not recomed this restaurant at all.

I spent a very nice day on 18 th July in Nyiregyhaza, travelling from Romania about 4 ours. We started visiting the amazing Wild Park, which is unique in Hungary with its successful breading programs, here you can always see nice new born animals, this time everybody was curious to see the little Pigmy Hippo, it was pretty difficult to catch it, because he was hidden by his mother in a pond surrounded by dense vegetation, tree branches. In this period they were everywhere nice babies: giraffes, baby goats, and my favourite, the Katta lemurs, and other nice creatures. The Park has 5 big areas called after the continents and has a new construction: the Green Pyramid and Ocenarium ( with big sharks), in this Pyramide you can see orangutan and varan too. After visiting this zoo, we went to the Salty Lake Bath, which is huge!!!!!! Pools with thermal water, pools with fresh water, underwater massage, all it's about a good Spa...then were looking after a good garden restaurant, and we found the Irish Pub, named "424" after a famous Hungarian steam locomotive. The food was excellent, big portions, the beer cold: top service! And noticed a thing: smoking is prohibited even in open areas! Thank you for this!

We dropped in here to have a lunch on a gloomy working day.
From the outside, the restaurant looked like deserted but inside there were many people.
The service was fine, we had the daily and the weekly menu. All the dishes were fresh and were fine! :-)

Having only been here once, I was impressed with the quality of the food, the prices and the service. Friendly owner, good waitress that waited on us, and very good palacsinta. If you're in Nyiregyhaza and have some time and want to get out of the center, and try some authentic and traditional Hungarian dessert, then I would recommend coming here.

Good quality foods on low price level. The best to choose from menu because than it is very fast and very cheap. They have a lot of parking place. You can get free dessert with menu. It has an old style outside and inside also but waitress are friendly.

In Szabolcs county it is traditional that they do serve gyros in a crescent rather than in the usual pita. Giri Gyros is a local estabilishment selling this kind of gyros for the locals and the brave tourists. Their "crescent" gyros is very filling, they put a lot of stuff in it : tomato, onion, paprika, mushroom (!!), corn and you can have it with chicken or chicken LIVER or mixed :) They also sell hot dogs, burgers, pizza but their top selling product is of course gyros. This is quite a culinary shock to eat this kind of gyros, but it does the job ! Worth trying out ! :)

I dont reccomend this place. Me and my husband wanted to eat nice good cakes.
I looked on tripadvisor.com for a good coffe House where we can have cakes also.
What we got were full of plastic ingredients, also the cream on the top was not from milk.
The ice cream also was not make with milk, so we were very dissapointed.
