This restaurant in Schaffhausen is not far from the river (between there and the railway station). The location (though handy) is near to a busy road and also a very loud bar (to be fair issues resolved by eating indoors, we chose to sit out as the weather was very hot!).
The food was excellent (steaks cooked 'just right' although we were eating in darkness by the end of the meal) and the service very good. I was new to Switzerland and wasn't prepared for the cost of eating out here but suffice to say its on the expensive end of the scale.
Still if your company is paying then i highly recommend it!

We visited this restaurant with Swiss friends who had very warm memories of a wonderful meal they had had two years ago. It turned out that the restaurant has changed hands in the interim not once but twice, and the experience did not live up to their memories despite some excellent highlights. Sommerlust has a beautiful location beside the Rhein, not far from the beautiful old town centre of Schaffhausen; it features a lovely garden where meals are served, weather permitting, though we ate on the covered and enclosed patio. The lunch menu was quite simple, but occasioned a misunderstanding about what was included with the optional dessert course (be aware that the "sweet surprise" [süsser Überraschung) is not one of the desserts from the separate--and separately billed--dessert menu). The table d'hôte featured vegetarian, fish, and meat options, each with either asparagus soup or a house salad to start. Three of us chose the soup, which was superb: fresh, rich, and creamy, served with excellent fresh rolls and butter, olive oil, and salt. The salad looked good, with fresh watercress prominent. Three of us then had the fish option, which was Sommerlust's take on bouillabaisse. It proved to be less satisfying than then asparagus soup: served in a bowl were three mussels, a substantial portion of white fresh-water fish fillet, and some very but stringy fresh spinach. Croutons and rouille came separately (the rouille was not as spicy as I would have liked, and I wondered whether the traditional harissa had been omitted). The fourth member of our party chose the meat option, which was an excellent beef filet served with yummy-looking roast potatoes and vegetables. The desserts (I had blood orange sherbet with mango pannacotta and a rather uninspired "cardamom crumble" that was much like a crumbled chocolate biscuit) were very good. Our friends chose the wine, an excellent Aigle des Murailles, and we had two bottles of mineral water which they said were overpriced. Our server was new (we asked) and there were some glitches in the service, though he was friendly and attentive (he tried to take the wine order even though he had forgotten to bring the wine list). All in all, a good meal, but not up to the price charged (lunch was 132CHF for the four of us, not including the wine and mineral water, which our friends paid for).

Lovely, traditional café located in the Old Town. Since 1968, this family-run business not only offers a large range of different coffees, teas, homemade cakes and pastries, but also vegetarian dishes for lunch. A place to linger with a large choice of newspapers and magazines.
Lovely café in the old town of Schaffhausen. Fresh quiche of the day, lovely tea selection, respectable vegetarian menu available. The service is also some of the best in Schaffhausen. Do book ahead, as the place is small (in nicer weather there are more tables added outside, which is lovely for watching people.)

Nice only very slightly off the beaten path and excellent restaurant. We ate out side and there were no smokers in our area. The had a nice court yard area in the rear and thus, didn't have any street noise.

WE did not start off too well here, but the staff was VERY gracious! I had entered the wrong time for our dinner reservation into my calendar, but when we arrived an hour late, the staff didn't blink an eye and took us directly to our table. It was the start of a delicious evening. All of our dishes were wonderful (modern variations of some regional dishes) and we were THRILLED with the local wine that our server recommended to us. We'll be back and next time we'll be on time!

A cosy lunch, a romantic evening meal or a small celebration: enjoy classic and seasonal specialities with products from the local region in a unique setting inside our ancient walls. Relax in front of the open fire in the lounge or, when the weather is good, enjoy a meal on our Terrace. Exquisite dining at the Rhine Falls. The Castle Team looks forward to your visit.
The 5sf ticket to get to the fall viewing platforms also admits you inside the schloss where you get views across the upper part of the falls and railway/pedestrian bridge from some of the windows. There's nothing really much to see inside and consists of mainly empty rooms with a few tables/chairs plus info on some of the past residents. Personally I'd not bother and continue down to the viewing platforms either via the lift or walking.
Views of the falls are better from this side of the river - you can either take a boat across for 2sf/e each way or walk across the rail/pedestrian bridge above the falls for free.
A tip - at the main car park there's usually a long queue to purchase the 5sf ticket but there's a self service machine at the base of lift for which you'll not have to queue or next to the schloss entrance where the wait time will be minimal. Also, you can't purchase cross river ferry tickets at the main kiosk - you get them from the landing stage and you don't need to purchase a 5sf ticket to do this - take the lift down, turn left and down the track - there's also a viewing area but obviously not as good as those you pay 5sf for.

Panoramic restaurant with a spectacular view on the waterfall. Modern international cuisine and a cosy atmosphere. Rhinefall is illuminated in the evening!
Schlossli worth, the beautiful restaurant with wonderful views of the thundering waters of the falls and precarious river boat trips, is worth the expense. We had rich mushroom soup and summer salad, both delicious and presented well. Staff are attentive and the huge windows make the room lovely and light.

This restuarant offers great views on the rhinefall from the Neuhausen (canton of Schaffhausen) side with a view on Laufen castle which is on the Dachsen (canton of Zurich) side.
.. and enjoy your meal or drinks. Yes, expect prices to be a bit higher, but not exagerately so, and the view is worth it, after the walk around the Waterfalls.

Guterhof was build in1787 as warehouse for the goods being transported down the Rhine. After a long period of it being unused, the historical building was brought to life. A generous gastronomic concept with cafe, restaurant, cocktail bar &Lounge, Sushi and banquet hall was opened in June 2008. At night Guterhof transforms to a lively party and event location. For connoisseurs of authentic sushi, the visit to Guterhof is a must. Every Tuesday evening we offer sushi a discretion. For lunch we serve a daily (monday to friday) changing 2 course menu for CHF 22 in addition to a choice of a la Carte dishes and Guterhof specials as fish chnusperlis or mixed salads. Guterhof as multicultural meeting point has a fine dining restaurant. The guests can overlook the cooks while preparing the regional and international dishes. Menu and wine cards are available also in English.
One of these places which you rather visit for the location & atmosphere than the food. Beautiful Terrace by the Rhine river for hot summer days/evenings. The Riesling soup was great. I hope you found this review useful, if so please support it! Thank you
