This is a medieval city in the far north of Switzerland, with many Renaissance-era buildings, a fine old Canton fortress, the Munot, and as a key attraction, the Rhine Falls, the largest waterfalls in Europe.

We decided to take the boat from Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen and onward to the Rhine Falls. The chap at the kiosk was friendly, helpful and cheerful - not only with the boat tickets but also with our return journey which was by bus and train (we were given inclusive tickets). The journey down river is half the time of the reverse trip due to the strong current but at 1hr 15mins it's long enough to to meander past pretty villages and shoreline. Have to admit how surprised I was to find modern and clean toilets onboard.
The boat fare, land train bus to falls and rail ticket back to Stein am Rhein was just over 79cf/e for two adults.

Schaffhausen's historical down town offers a combination of history and modern times. One can find shops for everyone needs and this all in very beautiful surroundings. When you walk through the pedestrien zone you can see many houses with beautiful wall paintings and allmost every house is fitted with an oriel. Some people say, Schaffhausen is the city of hundred oriels. And then there is the spectacular circular Castle above the city, the Munot. One can dance and dinner in the castle's attrium on warm sommer saturdays. And you can walk alongside the river Rhein's embankment and watch the Crystal clear water.

After what seems like an interminable climb, the main floor of this fortress almost seems like the basement of a cloister with arches and gravel floor with paths. You can look out the various windows to the town below in all directions. The next part is the tower which is a ramp rather than stairs and lets out onto a fully floored roof where programs and dances are held. Again, you can look out over the walls and see far and wide. There is a moat as well which is grassed. On the way down, we spotted deer in the moat areas and there were lovely Gardens including a rose garden. Well worth a visit. And there is a numbered tour of Schaffhausen on line which we printed out and walked and enjoyed thoroughly.

IWC Museum A Journey Through History. Over 230 carefully selected items bear witness to a manufacturer that started making a name for itself with unusually reliable quality and unmistakable, universally appealing design from the very beginning. The collection starts with the legendary Jones calibres in American cases, the first pocket watches with a digital display, ornately decorated dress watches, ladies' watches encrusted with gemstones, and the very first IWC wristwatches. It charts the development of multifunctional timepieces such as the pilot's, deck, diver's and antimagnetic watches, culminating in a number of exquisite specialities and one of the most complicated wristwatches the world has ever seen: Il Destriero Scafusia, which was manufactured in a limited edition to mark the company's 125th anniversary. The retrospective is fittingly complemented by original documentation from IWC's own archives.
I had the chance to combine the IWC museum and the factory museum thank to Oiffae who used to be the IWC store manager in Geneva. I went there with a group of friends to visit this wonderful world of time pieces presented by IWC. The collection of watches is just stunning, the beautiful Portuguese or Portofino. one of my favourite is the Aquatimer Galapagos edition. Beyond the modern faces of the brand such as Lewis Hamilton there is a fantastic history of watchmaking since 1868. This brand is one of the major career opportunity for the local people, the only other attraction is the visit of the Rhin Waterfalls.

The Museum zu Allerheiligen is situated in the Old Town of Schaffhausen, in the premises of the former Benedictine All Saints Monastery. The region's most important museum houses Archeology, History, Art and Natural History under one roof.
A large part of the museum is located within the original Benedictine Abbey Allerheiligen and is full of history. As we like this sort of places, we had a long time stay over there even though it is not the biggest museum.
With a Swiss Travel Pass this museum is free of fee. (as other museums as well, check up which once before you go)

The office is conveniently located at one end of the main square between railway station and river ferry pier for trips towards lake Constance. Inside, the office is large and spacious however, everything seems crammed into one end and not sure it should be so - there was the "Stars in Town" concert arena being prepared in the square outside which might have had something to do with it? There are numerous pamphlets/brochures available covering most things you'd want to see in the vicinity - guess most visitors are interested in the Rheinfalls just a short distance outside of town. We had a couple of questions in advance of family visiting and the lady behind the counter was very helpful in explaining the best options to cruise the river/visit the falls.
There's plenty of Seating and this makes it convenient to rest and peruse all the information you've gathered!

I would like to Thank you Kamal for arranging such a beautiful trek. As you suggest me to trek in October for clear crystal view of Mt Everest. There was not much more snow in mountain but the mountain are beautiful. I do not want to return to my home when I saw the Golden Everest during sunrise. I am again planning to visit Everest in Autumn session so I can enjoy much more with snow.
