As vegetarians, we had great difficulty finding a good solid meal in Misahualli. However, La Posada came through for us. On several occasions, they put together a tasty and hearty plate with protein (lentils), rice, broccoli, cauliflower with a hearts of palm and tomato salad. It was always worth the 40 minute wait. We enjoyed watching the comings and goings around the town square, and especially the antics of several families of cheeky monkeys who live in the trees there. On one occasion, two monkeys and the live-in Posada hound put on a real show, jumping on tables and chairs next to ours, screaming and taunting each other. The restaurant is run by an inter-generational family who take pride in their establishment. We were certainly glad of their presence in this town!

The restaurant is so clean and beautiful you can see some ducks and fish swimming there.
The music is wonderful and the most special for me was the food there is not words for describing the good presentation and the flavour.
I would like recommend this small piece of heaven in Misahualli.

All around best pizza place in Ecuador. We visited Misahualli for two days and had dinner here both days. All fresh ingredients prepared the morning of (with handmade dough and sauce), and we found out he travels around Ecuador in search of the best meats and cheeses...talk about dedication! Being a newer restaurant, it was not completely decorated yet which he apologized for (totally unnecessary- as the pizza was phenomenal!) Very friendly owner who was dandy to talk to and had great music playing as well. The owner, David, is from New York and speaks both English AND Spanish! He was very informative and offered helpful suggestions when we inquired about nearby activities.
Definitely recommend stopping in and grabbing a slice!
Or a whole pizza ;)

La Balsa Restaurant is a floating artisan restaurant built with materials of the area and with an Amazonian style. It is located in Misahualli floating 10 meters from the shore on the river Napo. It is an unique and charming place where you can enjoy a beautiful view, delicious Ecuadorian gastronomy and excellent service by our kichwa people from the communities around, Who can also tell you many story and tales about the culture and traditions of the Ancient Amazon. One of our specialties is the typical dish of the Amazon called Mayto, which is a tilapia fish wrapped in a leaf known in the Kichwa culture as Rumi panga (rock leaf), this leaf give a special flavor and taste to the fish after have been steamed . For those who wish and have a bit of free time, they can fish his own tilapia in the great Napo river, as there is a small pond at the Restaurant inside the river. We look forward to sharing with you a great experience of our Amazon Culture and authentic delicious food.

from the shore in Misahualli we were transported in a canoe to the restaurant, where the manager (or owner) gave us a warm welcome and explained us about the restaurant and emergency protocol.
