A friend and I stopped at the cascada through our several-day jungle hike and it was incredible. I did not think the hike was particularly tough, however do wear good shoes (not flipflops or normal nice sneakers - wear rain/hiking boots) and you should be fine. It is a gorgeus hike, about an hour from the main road and there are seevral spots on the way worth stopping and admiring. However, this waterfal is not only breath-taking, you also get to bathe in it and the water is not cold at all.

A friend from California was visiting Ecuador and she wanted to see the jungle, so we headed to Tena, and from a really super tour agency there (Aqua Xtreme, please see my review) we were hooked up with the best tour guide ever, Luis Zapata, operating out of Misahualli. Lucky for us, it was a slow time, so we were the only two in the group.
The tour was three days, and we covered a lot of territory. A visit to a Kichwa village, an animal rescue center, a jungle reserve, plenty of boat travel and much more. A great deal of the time was spent in conversation with Luis about the culture, natural history, and plant life of the jungle. We were able to see plenty of birds and other wildlife, but what was most valuable to me in particular, was the guide's extensive knowledge about plants and their medicinal uses. I was very impressed!
We were introduced to Luis' wife and family, and were even guests in their lovely home above the river. The food was very good as well, most of it carefully prepared by Luis and his wife. It was the first time I tasted Guayusa tea, and the rest of the fare was more than I ever expected. We were never hungry!
If you want a guide who speaks excellent English, is a true native of the region, very knowledgeable and affable, this is a guide for you. There had been some extreme rains just before, and also during our visit, so the Napo river was very high and running fast. Yet I felt complete confidence in Luis' skill in handling our boat. Looking back on those days in the jungle...what a great experience. Thank you, Luis and Ruth Zapato.

I visited Amazoonico as an optional trip from my tour group. There were eight of us arriving later afternoon. Hours are posted as 7am to 4pm. There were a few other people there but it was not crowded. We arrived by way of the Napo River on a canoe and the walk up to the starting area was quite a way upwards. We were met by a guide and a few other people who did not have a guide hooked onto our tour. I am not sure if the tour company provided the guide for us or not. The guide was from the Netherlands and had not been at Amazoonice very long but she was passionate about the animals and very knowledgeable about even individual animals in groupings. As we went from one area to the next the terrain was up and down. There is a small not very interesting gift shop. I definitely found the visit worthwhile.

I didn't go tubing (already did that in Baños) but spent a good amount of time by the river and kayaking on it. The views are spectacular and the atmosphere very peaceful. We didn't book a tour but found a local tourguide who arranged most of the trip.

Kamak Maki community ecotourism Center is a community project with the goal of preserving ancestral knowledge of the region and educating people about the Kichwa culture and other cultures of the Ecuadorian Amazon. The name, Kamak Maki, in the native language Kichwa means the power of hands working together. The project is located in the community of Chichicorumi.
Save yourself the money of the outrageous boat cost to get here. Take a taxi, bus, or drive. $2 pp was well worth what we learned. Quite interesting and the guide was able to set each trap, something I could not do with out prior knowledge. For sure don't expect a museum of Europe or the USA, but do enjoy what they have.

We recently visited for a two hour hike and enjoyed the short visit in the jungle. The terrain is rather challenging and I recommend wearing the rubber boots. They sent our group with a young guide who was friendly and helpful.

We are a tour company specializing in jungle tours, adventure tours from 1 to 7 days in the amazon. There are tours available by hours and as well as camping along the rivers and staying with indigenous communities. We offer excursions by canoe, kayak, tubing, and hiking. Visits to shamans and ritual ceremonies.
Upon arrival in Misahualli, we visited several tour companies offering tours into the jungle. As most other companies offered standard tours that would only allow us to stay around Misahualli, we chose to go with Nucanchi Pakcha as they tailored the tour to our wishes. Another advantage of this company is that they work only with local guides from the Quechua tribe. We did a 4-day tour deep into the jungle forrest and learned a lot about wildlife and how to survive in the jungle (set up encampments, build rafts, fish, cook, etc). Highlight of the trip was the unexpected encounter with the Huaorani tribe who invited us to stay in their house on the last night of our trip. Highly recommended!
