The Former coach house in Meiningen is a huge building which now houses a hotel, a confectioner's and two restaurants - the Kutscherstube and the Posthalterei. We dined in the latter and it was one of the best ever dining experiences I've had. The setting was both luxurious and refined, staff were friendly and helpful and the food - it would take pages to do justice to it. There was no à la carte as such. Instead there were two menus, each with a seven-course dinner and each with two options per course. One could order as many or as few courses as one wished. The restaurant chose wines to complement the courses. We got the impression that the chef had composed his menus on the basis that there were seven courses involved; each course turned out to be quite small. So, next time (and there will be a next time!) we'll go for the full seven courses. As it was, I ordered four courses while my partner had three. In addition there was an exquisite bonne bouche to kick-start our taste buds and we finished off with a digestive, so we're not complaining! Each course was conceived, executed and presented to perfection. The wines were good enough to make us do a complete re-think on the quality of German wines. Here's just an indication of the service. We were, of course, shown the labels of each wine. When presented with the wine for my main course, I noted that the vineyard was in a place called Ahr. I asked where Ahr was, but the waitress was unsure. A few minutes later she presented me with a print-out from Wikipedia giving details of the area. We were last to leave the restaurant and were given no impression that we should hurry up. So, on all counts this restaurant scored full marks. Absolutely recommended and well worth a detour.

Food is amazing, staff are really helpful and the views are great. Ate at the restaurant a few times as the food was great and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend it

Lovely food. Typical German style - meat and dumplings, no veg. Good service, although we had gone with the locals. No complaints at all.

Being some what a stanger of visiting Meningen,Germany, I have ate in a Greek restaurants in Europe. This restaurant is by far the most comfortable, relaxing, and fun place to enjoy and is a must for anyone visiting the Town.
The food is fantastic and all hand made in the kitchen. I can personally reccommend the Athene Pallas which is a Proud Restaurant. I could not fault one aspect. The staff, the location and the food are faultless!

Four of us ate lunch at the Restaurant of the Hotel Sachsischer Hof on a Saturday. We made Reservations, but found that they were not needed, despite the praiseworthy recommendations we had heard. The restaurant has many dining rooms from formal, to Gasthaus, to beer garden, to café. This was our main meal of the day, so we chose the more upscale. Each of us ordered a different dish from the ample menu. The wine list was several pages long and featured open wines and bottles. All were from vineyards of high repute and we found the several we tasted to be of the expected quality and reasonably priced. The amuse-bouche was one of the nicest we have had.
As is our custom, we exchanged tastes of the main courses. All were first rate. Service was prompt, cordial and attentive. A dropped napkin and later a dropped spoon were replaced in a flash. Portion sizes were reasonable, side dishes, no matter how simple of complex were all tasty.
For our dessert, we wandered into the café to make our selections and then returned to our table. Despite the surprisingly small number of patrons, the selection consisted of over 15 choices. Again, we chose different items and shared tastes. Our combined opinion was that everything ranged from very good to outstanding. Still, the meal came to less than 30 Euro per person, inclusive of wine, water, food, dessert, coffee and tip.

Every trip to Meiningen to visit family we have either lunch or dinner here. Seems like it's mostly locals, there is not that much advertisement.
