Martigny (French: [maʁtiɲi]; German: Martinach; Latin: Octodurum) is the capital of the district of Martigny in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It lies at an elevation of 471 meters (1,545 ft), and its population is approximately 15000 inhabitants (Martignerains or "Octoduriens"). It is a junction of roads joining Italy, France and Switzerland. One road links it over the Great St. Bernard Pass to Aosta (Italy), and the other over the col de la Forclaz to Chamonix (France). In winter, Martigny is known for its numerous nearby Alp ski resorts such as Verbier.

Our friend living in Martigny invited us for lunch to this restaurant, she described it as 'exquisite cuisine'! The set menu was enormous, so we decided to have one dish each and a dessert. I ordered veal with wild mushrooms, my husband ordered salmon fish and my friend ordered coquis St Jacques. Portion was big enough, the taste was delicious and we enjoyed every bite of our meals, We had red wine called Cornell, a typical Valaisan red wine, went very well with the food. Dessert came and thank God it was lighter than we thought ! It wasn't cheap, easily 250SF for dishes we had. but we enjoyed, so we paid the right price for the right food! Service was also excellent.

I had been there twice before and was wowed. I returned last night with y daughter and granddaughter and again were very pleasantly surprised. The service was very efficient and above all personable and attentive and the Fondue selection outstanding. The taste delicious. the prices very reasonable. It was a very great evening in a nice and cozy ambience and I will return many more times and can really recommend this place for an authentic Swiss dinner experience. The restaurant is frequented by locals.

Four of us stopped off in Martigny after a day out and decided to try Restaurant 'Les Touristes' on speck.
Nelson the restaurant owner was only too happy to seat us without booking and after some delicious rose wine we had a most splendid and sophisticated meal.
It is not often I wax lyrical about soup but the tomato soup starter was sensational, creamy with a basil dressing, we all adored it. Afterward we had Canette (duck), bass with coquille sause, Valaisanne pork cooked two ways, and beef ravioli; every dish was outstanding.
We did not manage to get to the Deserts but I would bet they were good also.
Don't miss this place if you are in the area, it has only been open 6 months but I would not be surprised if it eventually got interest from the Michelin man.

We went because it was close by on our first evening, and there was a vegetarian dish on the board outside (tagliatelle with chanterelles). We both had excellent salads to start. My wife had ... Erm, fish and chips (perch meuniere which came with a mountain of chips which slightly threw her). I have to say that my heart sank a bit when I saw my tagliatelle. How often is the option for vegetarians a risotto or pasta dish which is both too fatty and rich and too unvaried and starchy, so it becomes a tedious burden. However it turned out to be excellent all the way through, with the mushrooms delightful. The local wine was also very good, and we will be looking out for it in future. If we'd been staying longer (or it was open on Sunday) we'd no doubt have gone back.

Located near the Place centrale, Martigny
This restaurant opened last year (2010). It has a very intersting menu - mostly as the name indicates fish and meat. The cuisine is very creative and the chef uses very fresh ingredients. If he doesn't have something fresh he doesn't serve it! Prices are reasonable and the staff are delightful! Tables are well spaced and there is a nice little garden for outside dining in the summer. the location right next to the UBS on the Place Centrale is perfect.
Their fricassé of gambas is great - shrimp are already peeled and the sauce is very tasty. The "Boulliabase du Chef" is lovely - again, very fresh fish and you can taste each different fish instead of having them swamped by the taste of the sauce. There is a plat du jour each day at lunchtime.
Average cost of a meal for us, including 3 courses and 50cl of open wine was around 130frs for two. However it wasn't really necessary to have the dessert!! But my husband said the Tarte Tatin was the best he ever ate!

Expensive, mainly due to the strength of the Swiss Franc, but really very good food. But the wine is over-priced, and if you buy by the glass, with very stingy 'portions' - 100 ml, very carefully measured out! The very worst part, though, is the customer service. The waitress, very very carelessly knocked over my (nearly full - and expensive) beer glass - all over my trousers. She just gave me a small cloth, and that was that. No thought of anything more - not even replacing my beer! I had to complain pretty strongly to even get that replaced. At the end, we went in to pay the bill, and found dozens of dirty glasses littering the bar, empty boxes everywhere, and a shambolic appearance. If we'd seen that, we'd never have sat down there (we were on an outside table). If I was the obviously very good chef, I'd be tempted to go and work somewhere else.

This restaurant is a little out of the centre, and you are not going to stumble across it. It is worth checking out. The pizza was excellent and the service just fine. It gets busy at lunch time with locals.

One of the oldest "Café - restaurant" in Martigny Bourg in a very typical surrounding You will find two small and quiet dinning rooms on the first floor.
We visited Cafe National for lunch with friends for a birthday celebration. We chose the set menu of entree, main and dessert. It was great value at 22 Swiss francs. This was a nice surprise considering the cost of eating out in Switzerland.
The food was of excellent quality and the staff were so friendly . The cafe is in the old town area of Martigny which has lots of old charm. I would highly recommend Cage National.

The burger is good. Yes it is good. But... it is _not_ the best burger in the world! thanks, Tripadvisor, you spoiled it for me. I expected something quite, well, exceptional. It was just a good burger. No more, no less.
Please, fellow tripadvisors. Go there! Enjoy the burger! The minifries are nice. The setting is not so nice, in my opinion. Loud, poorish decoration. One could have done better.
All in all, it's good. Not Very Good. Not Excellent. But good.
Oh... did you notice? There are too many burger restaurants in this world. I sometimes go to them. And it is beginning to get boring!
