Mariner's Wharf is the first harbourfront emporium in Africa and consists of the upstairs 360 seater Wharfside Grill restaurant, the downstairs fast- food Seafood Bistro, nautical gift shops, Bakery and Fish Market.
When we visited the interesting harbour of Hout Bay, we were looking for a more decent fish restaurant than the usual fish and chips snacks you can find everywhere. Choosing the Mariner´s Wharf was definetly the wrong decision. The outside view and the bread offered in the beginning have been the only things that were at least okay. The rest was just poor: the fish platter has been served cold soaked with tons of butter (at least it seemed fresh), the table has not been cleaned properly, the upholstery had gone haywire and looked awful and for the price we had to pay we could have afforded a luxury restaurant.

Between 1835 and 1849 the Kronendal Farm was owned by Sir William Josias Cloete. Legend has it that the homestead is haunted by his daughter Elsa Cloete who died of a broken heart after being forbidden to marry her soldier lover. Kitima still sets and serves a table for Elsa with samples from the menu to appease Elsa's spirit. Welcome to Kitima restaurant where oriental elegance and hospitality meet the unpretentious grace and charm of Africa. Our authentic Thai and Asian Fusion cuisine, prepared by our Thai chefs will carry you to a world of exotic spices, perfumes and all that’s precious and exotic. Various dining option are available from our private lover’s room Seating 2-6 persons, our VIP room Seating up to 12 persons, our Temple and Bangkok rooms as well as the Raya lounge for cocktails, drinks, snacks or even dinner to share. Kitima exudes all the splendour of a traditional Cape Dutch homestead with yellowwood ceilings, wooden floors combined with modern Asian artefacts and cuisine. Our cocktail list is extensive and features a number of award winners that are both stunning in taste and appeal. The restaurant has the addition of the garden and the Raya Terrace which are unique covered areas that are available, however these are weather permitting. We invite you to have a taste of true Thai cuisine in a traditional and modernised South African homestead.
We have dined at Kitima every year for over 10 years during our annual vacation from England. Tonight was no exception.
Gone was the friendly reception as we entered. When we entered the bar we noticed that it was much quieter than normal for a Friday night. The service & food were good, but oh dear, the reason for Kitima being so quiet is that the prices have risen enormously. As for the wines.........!
It transpires that last September some British restaurant chain bought Kitima from the family owners which had ruined our once, favourite restaurant.
Sadly, like many other people, we won't be back

The restaurant is a local institution, renowned worldwide for the best Calamari in Cape Town, with a popular sun-drenched Terrace overlooking the bay and Mountains. Calamari at the Chapmans Peak was voted as "one of top 20 things to do in Cape Town".It’s the ideal location for those lingering sunsets and balmy evenings. A sun-drenched verandah boasting spectacular views of the bay offers an alternative eating venue for those wishing to dine Al fresco. And in those winter months, it’s one of few places in the Cape with fireplaces (dating back 100yrs)
we stayed for one night only and were delighted by th attentive staff. Our breakfast waiter explained the history of the business and the owner was present - a delightful gentleman . A very special stay

Spiro's in Hout Bay is the ideal restaurant if you're looking for traditional, authentic Greek food made with love and care. There are al fresco dining areas on the patio in front of the restaurant and in the paved, enclosed courtyard with bar.
Needed a well deserved evening out with good food and music, tried other places and ended up at Spiro's , could not have asked for a better evening , we opted for a variety of starters , this was rather tasty and plentiful , great...MoreHi Gerald Thank you for your review. We are incredibly happy that you had such a great time with us. Hope to have you back soon. Regards Spiro

A visit to this out of the way restaurant used to be a fun, unusual experience. It has now become a tourist trap. The prices have risen to "proper" restaurant levels yet the informal environment leaves a lot to be desired. The tables were sticky, the food disappointing and an overall experience that I will not repeat.

After taking to numerous people we were recommended Massimo’s... we arrived early and our son enjoyed the kids area a lot...
But an hour later we still didn’t have any food, then when I asked if they could at least get the kids pizza through it arrived and was cold already (been sitting around) most of the rest of the food then arrived but the final dish only arrived when we asked where it was... so the starter arrived after we had finished mains!
Apparently they were understaffed so be careful of when you go?? Not sure how you check that!

The wine list reflects the wine growing regions of the Cape.Enjoy sensational sundowners and cocktails whilst listening to local live music on selected evenings.
We arrived for a late lunch and were seated outside (by choice) with no fuss by an attentive FOH lady. A waiter arrived promptly and took our drinks order and we had a look at the menu. My g/f decided on the Gambas pil pil prawns, the pan fried prawns in chilli, garlic and lemon and a side of sweet potato fries (which were soft and tasty) and a glass of La Motte Private cellar sauvignon blanc. I chose the grilled calamari steak with garlic and lemon. Our meals arrived timeously and I was given 3 large pieces of tender and tasty calamari with a large amount of (chosen option) chips. A good day out over all with a welcome breeze whilst overlooking the yachts, Chapmans Peak and the bay.

We take our food extreme seriously. We make everything from scratch. We do not buy anything other than raw ingredients and free range meats. We produce things that we want to eat ourselves. We cook to feed and to share, applying the same instincts as a home cooked meal, made with lots of love.
Having regularly enjoyed the occasional breakfast here over several years, sorry to see the standards dropping. The hands-on management that used to be very visible has disappeared- at least on Sunday mornings- is absent, and the the adverse effects are tangible. It took nearly an hour to get our breakfast order ( for just 2 persons) served.
