This restaurant is simply perfect from all aspects. The decoration, the locaiton, the service and the food menus all fit together like charm. Moreover, what is important is the fact that this Michelin-starred restaurant offers you a gastronomic experience without experimenting too much with the flavours and ingredients. Simply put, you will have here a normal tasty grandmother style food combined with the portions, presentation and creativity of a gourmet restaurant.

We were aiming for the 'Adler Wirtschaft'; but it was closed.
Zum Krug is exactly what you expect of a traditional village hotel/restaurant: all heavy, dark oak furniture and panelling.
The food likewise: not bad; but somewhat over-salted, and with an excess of rich saucing. My colleague's Wiener Schnitzel she described as 'average'.
The wine list was almost exclusively Rhein riesling, with small later sections labelled 'non-Riesling' and even - horribile dictu - red wines.
The price was Euros 55 for the two of us - quite reasonable, for such a touristy village.
Overall: adequate; not memorable.

Based on reviews I decided to book a table here as I was staying in the Mainz area. Wow, what a great place to eat and what a difference compared to many "Italian" restaurants in Germany. This is a true Italian restaurant with real and great Italian dishes. I did not have pizza, but even they look authentic. Will 100% be back next time around!

The atmosphere, the food, and, the staff are fantastic! We have gone there 3 times now, the food is always great. It is a new favorite! You will enjoy the rich sauces and juicy meats.
The only negative this visit was the creme brulee, the sugar on top was clearly burnt and it was dusted with powdered sugar to cover it up. My friends were too polite to send it back, but it should not have been brought to the table.

Nice location, an overgrown atrium in the center of town. I really enjoyed the 'Blutwurstmaultaschen' (black puddig ravioli) with sauerkraut, an intriguing regional delicatesse. My wife's Wienerschnitzel was a bit bleak and lacked crispiness. (A lady at a neighbouring table must have had that experience before - she explicitly ordered her schnitzel "nicely seared" and it indeed looked better). The french fries that came with it were good.

Eltville is a small town on the banks of the Rhein, just west of Wiesbaden. The restaurant is near the town centre on a pedestrian street leading down towards the river. It is an old style German restaurant, with old decor suggesting it was originally a spice shop (or a chemist) dating from the last century. The food is hearty and plentiful, the welcome is very warm (although it helps if you speak some German). As this is the heart of the Rheingau, local wine is much in evidence. Good value for money - 3 meals with wine coming to €65. Overall a most enjoyable meal. Add in a walk along the Rhein and a visit to the Gardens of the nearby Kurfürstliche Burg (a small castle) and you have an excellent excursion.

First time I visit that monastery, and I look forward to visiting again. The restaurant there is very nice. Very authentic, excellent service, beautiful old setting, some authentic plates, I include some photos. We drank apple juice mixed with sparkling water, and the ice cream was very delicious, made with local herb liquor in it. Very recommended to have lunch there.

Weinstube Gelbes Haus

Reviewed By Richard E

After a day's trip, with extended family, up and down the Rhine in "tourist weather" with striking scenery, we went to Weinstube Gelbes Haus (loosely translated as "Yellow House Wine Bar") for dinner. The only off note for the visit is finding parking. Parking in Eltville, along the Rhine, is a challenge, but we rose to the occasion. Finding the restaurant is easy - it really is a yellow house. It's a half-timbered house in a row of half-timbered houses or "fachwerkhäuser".
The interior is warm and inviting, but it's the porch, overlooking vineyards and the Rhine, that is the prize. Service was attentive, the food excellent, and the Riesling was exactly to order: a dry (trocken) wine with a nice acid bite to it and all the scents, flavors and notes of an excellent wine.
Truly, Weinstube Gelbes Haus was the perfect end to a perfect trip.

Very impressive location, packed with guests.
An amazing wine list, specializing in regional wines; very carefully selected and very reasonably prices. Respect about that!
Extremely professional and friendly service team.
The food however ranges from "amazing" to "it's OK", depending on the course you're eating.
This inconsistency is not unexpected on this level of dining.
Maybe we caught them off guard on a bad day.
I hope so for them and I wish them to get the food organized in a flawless manner for future customers. I have no doubts they are able to perform on this level.

Gutsausschank im Baiken

Located in the idyllic hilly setting of acres upon acres of well manicured vines at what is probably Germany's best Staatsweingut (Federal State Winery), Baiken is an absolute treat when the weather is warm enough to sit outside on the Terrace and enjoy fabulous cuisine with excellent Baiken Rieslings. I joined two German wine experts on one such warm summer evening, and we were all blown away by the setting, food, wine and the knowledgable and friendly hosts. It was all tip-top: the soup, smoked salmon, pork belly, medallions of venison leg, the desserts. When it was time to choose the second (at last!) bottle of wine for the evening, the staff literally dig a bottle out of the cellar that wasn't on the menu (at our request)- a 1971 Baiken Riesling- and went to the trouble to call the owner at home to get a price and the okay for us to open it. Then my friend had to perform quite the delicate operation (before a steadily growing audience of curious staff members!) to remove the crumbling cork and pour the precious nectar into a decanter. The bottle by the way was very reasonably priced, showed beautifully, and the rest of the menu is an absolute bargain. Overall, I can recommend Baiken with confidence.
