We came here for a birthday party with friends. I had soup with pork dumplings followed by a rib eye steak with onions and pan fried crispy potato slices follow by handkasse and Liptaur kasse. The soup was tasty, the steak one of the best I have had in a long time and the cheese super tasty. Well done to Peter and all the staff for a great evening...

The restaurant has a long tradition in the Palatinate, in my opinion for two reasons: 1) famous guests taken there by the former German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, and 2) excellent cuisine. We were there on business, and the restaurant downstairs was closed. We had our food in a room adjacent to the main restaurant (cosy wood panels) on the main floor, but the food was from Schwarzer Hahn. The cuisine did not disappoint, and the highlight was the main dish (excellent lamb)! The wine list is a long selection of highlights from the Palatinate and other regions - something for everyone and mostly every price range. The service was top. It was my first experience and hopefully not the last. The other restaurant which I forgot the name is also good for more casual lunch or dinner.

I arrived there on Sunday at lunchtime in motorbike gear hoping to get a table, I was lucky. The 'Kanzlersuppe' tastes lovely and the duck sausages are a delight, surrounded by Germany's greatest wine region the choice of wine is difficult, but you can always ask one of the friendly service staff,

The interior is cozy and during warm weather the courtyard is pleasant. The food is good, portions are ample, and prices are reasonable. I had the ochsen spieß on my most recent visit. It's ox in a reduction sauce. The beef flavor and dense texture is what I expect from a really good cut of dry aged beef. It was a perfect medium-rare. Since coming to Germany I have been underwhelmed by the dry aged beef I have been served. I believe they try to cater to people who expect a tender cut of meat when they pay a premium price. Now I know where to go when I want a dense piece of beef with an intense flavor. It was perfect. My inner carnivore rejoices.

This place offers the regular local cuisine but also several nice salads and other (vegetarian) dishes, and daily specials. Always good quality!
The wine list is representative of the area with several excellent choices.
The staff are very friendly and attentive, and the meals arrived swiftly whenever we went there to have dinner. The prices are quite reasonable as compared to other places in Deidesheim -a touristic town, where you can also find several places that tend to overcharge a bit...
The locals are naturally aware of this fact and come here rather often, hence it is better to reserve a table in advance!

In the multi-award-winning gourmet restaurant L.A. Jordan the kitchen presents sophisticated dishes and innovative creations. A culinary experience and a sensory wander through the world of flavors for all gourmets who value something extraordinary.
Warm August evening, sitting outside, Deidesheim and the Ketschauer - whats not to like! We had the 3 course set menu and it was fabulous, the quality of the ingredients is obviously superb and well constructed by the kitchen - our beef just felt apart as you started to eat it, the sauce was rich and deep too. One small issue with a mix up on the wine front, the waiter forgot some of the wine flight and i had to go and ask as we could see any staff, but it was all good natured and respectfully sorted out on the spot, a good sign indeed. We also like the very modern surroundings. Helpful staff for the visitor, great food, and of course, amazing wine choice.

The wait staff were so friendly. The food all natural, uniquely presented and fresh. Everyone really loved their meal. They even stayed open longer so we could celebrate my birthday. Don't miss this restaurant if you are in the Deidesheim area!

Steps from the residence of a family friend who goes back 4 generations, this is where she took us for our special dinner in Forst. Everyone knows everyone and you feel right at home. The menu is in German -- no translations -- although the young proprietor (son of founder) spoke very good English. Their own wines are great -- why go off piste with outside wines? This is a real gem. No idea how much it cost -- our friend hosted -- but it all seemed reasonable.

If you happen to be on the Palatinate Weinstraße, visiting wineries, and go through the village of Deidesheim, be sure to visit the Leopold. This restaurant is part of the von Winning winery and offers in the cozy atmosphere of a high-vaulted cellar interesting dinner options worth trying. At the crossroad between bistro and steakhouse, the menu is rather comprehensive, albeit mostly about meat, with main courses in the 18-40-euro price range — neither a cheap restaurant, nor an outlandishly expensive one. At Leopold, do not expect an inventive, highly refined cuisine. This down-to-earth restaurant does not pretend to be what it is not — you can count on very well executed dishes, however simple they may be. A hearty, yet elegant bistro-like cuisine is perhaps what defines best Leopold. My friend chose a perfectly cooked rump steak served with a variety of vegetables. I enjoyed the steak tartar with the Pälzer Fridde, the local version of the French fries. The only downside of the evening was the deceiving Käsekuchen of the dessert menu — the German lighter version of the American cheesecake. Being huge fans of this pastry, we were immensely disappointed by the deconstruction that was served to us. The Kuchen had disappeared and was replaced by a nondescript mousse, underscoring that inventiveness in the kitchen cannot be improvised. As expected, the wine list was on the rather high end, consistent with the high prices of the local wineries — Deidesheim is an opulent village, the wine industry of which has been attracting many visitors from all around for years (as the quality of the Palatinate wines improved markedly in recent years, their prices started also to soar in response to an increasing demand). To summarize, while Leopold is certainly not a super affordable restaurant, it offers in a nice, cozy atmosphere, a choice of unpretentious, bistro-like entrees executed to perfection, which can you can choose to pair with the local wine production.
