Pricy, a bit depressing atmosphere, but good !
Being in Clermont-Ferrand I wanted to try one of the “starred” restaurants.
Having tried some others before, I went for a new one : Apicius.
The website was very nice.
First I realized it was closed on weekends. This is bad.
Then I managed to go on a Monday.
The atmosphere is rather depressing. It was only elderly people, not very crowded, no music and the atmosphere even if topped by some red sofas is cold.
The service is much average, not worth as starred restaurant.
The food is creative (but not too much) and real good.
The wine list is not very good and too pricy for what it is.
Overall a good experience thanks to the very innovative and good food.
I would still recommend the place if you are not depressed and not on your own and rather numerous to create the atmosphere yourselves.

I went to Le Duguesclin with two French colleagues, who knows something in French food.. we all had fantastic long evening, with generous, delicious starters, mains, cheese and desert. The wine list is relatively short and the wine we chose was very good. The chef takes his gob very seriously and when my fondant came out, he left the kitchen to apology that it bursted prematurely and not while i was poking it with my spoon...
the place is not big, it is cozy and an old fire place and arc shaped ceiling gives a romantic appearance to it.
If you are spending a night or two in Clermont Ferrand, make sure you eat here!

We were staying at the Logis hotel opposite and read the reviews for the restaurant which were really good. Fortunately they had space for the 4 of us and it was as good as it's reviews. The location is non-descript outside but nicely decorated inside in traditional french style. The menu choices were slightly limited to two fixed menus. Our children are now grown up (19 & 23) and were happy to try new types of food. When they were younger we mighty have struggled to find food they would eat here. The food though was excellent. Good traditional french food, well cooked and well presented. Good wine list including many local wines. If you are in the area it's worth a trip here.

We ate here on a Friday night while staying for a weekend in Clermont-Ferrand.
Excellent food and really helpful and friendly waitress. She explained the food and wine, and was able to make good recommendations of both. The meal was delicious and of great quality. Would thoroughly recommend.

Well and truly in the boonies of Clermont, the trusty GPS is a must to find this place ! Once there, things look up immediately, the staff are friendly and helpful and genuinely proud of their heritage and cooking (a family business of longstanding), and so they should be because the food is fantastic! One of the best vietnamese meals I have ever had anywhere ! Notable dishes were the nems and steamed prawn dumplings amongst the starters. As for mains, the satay and curry offerings were outstanding. If I were to have a gripe it would be that the wine list is not extensive, especially for the Rosés which are pricey for what they are.
Requiring a reservation this is a restaurant not to be missed !

This little restaurant was very close to the B&B where we were staying and we were most impressed by the quality of the food and the excellent, helpful service. The staff were most patient with our dodgy French and explained some of the dishes to us. These did not disappoint with really well cooked food in a friendly and fun atmosphere where nothing was too much trouble. Not in the most beautiful part of the city centre but this certainly did not detract from the experience

This could be a bit pricey. We went for a birthday celebration so cost wasn't the primary concern - special occasions are birthdays!
Anyway, the food was fresh, as available according to the season, served in a 'modern' style, but in an unfussy and friendly way.
Ingredients were fresh, well cooked, and care was taken in presentation. A small restaurant, clearly busy on a weekday, and turning customers away. Good wines, and no real sense of pressure from the staff which adds to the ambience - I dislike this consistent asking if everything is OK all too present in eating places. I'd go there again, if I was in town

Au BDV is a small restaurant where you can eat meatballs and veggie balls, burgerballs or classicballs with home made sauces. They also cook traditional food (hungarian goulash, caramel pork, chicken curry, veal, turkey). They also provide a lot of french wines at very good rates ! No need to buy a whole bottle, you can also have a glass if you wish to taste different wines. You will also taste the local beer of Clermont called "Plan B". RESERVATION HIGHLY RECOMMANDED.
This place is amazing. We dined here as a party of 10 at the beginning of August. we were in the area for a friends wedding. (Paul and Juilet's wedding)
The groom who lives near by recommended this restaurant to us. Menu is good and simple. Basically it's meatballs and what amazing meat balls they are. You choose the type of meatballs and what sauce you would like. All types looked delicious and the ones I had were just Devine. The starters were pretty good too. The owner is extremely friendly and very very helpful.
Be sure to book as they are very small but very popular.

Loved this place so much we went twice on our 6 day trip to Clermont Ferrand. Our French was non existent but the lady still accommodated my request for miel piment poulet (Honey Chilli Chicken... Google translate we love you). Even though it was not a menu item the dish was exquisite and the price was even better.Kudos to Wok Thai Clermont Ferrand.

We read good reviews about this restaurant so we made a reservation expecting the exceptional. Didn't live up to the hype. The price was very reasonable, but the food was average at best. But The service was speedy and polite, always with the smile
