If you are in a hurry, this is not your place. But it's worth the wait. The food is excellent, good variety of dishes and drinks, including vegetarian dishes, pasta and typical peruvian food. The "gnocchis a la huancaína" is one of the best dishes I had ever tasted.

We just walked in I am giving them 1 vote for the decoration, very cozy and nice. The service horrible, the girl who was our waitress didnt even say hi. We ordered "pye de limon"(lemon pye) and "torta helada", horrible!!! Not at all woth the 14 soles I paid, and on top of everything SLOW.I have tried millions and they never tasted so bad. To sum up: i wouldnt recommend the place

I only spent the day in Cajamarca and randomly stopped there to eat a bacon and cheese burger. Wow! The meat was incredible, one of the best burgers I had in south america! Plus, I did not have a place to put my bag for the day and i asked the chef/owner and he kindly kept it in his car for the day!

Make yourself a favor and don't come. I asked for al pesto pasta and 30 minutes later they brought a green pasta soup. I asked to take it away and they refused saying they will fix it. Later they brought a green pasta that tasted horrible. They use monosodium glutamate as principal ingredient of all their food. The price is to high to crap like this. PLEASE, there are lot of places to eat good in Cajamarca. Don't take this as an option.

This another place we visited thanks to tripadvisor contributters. We had a really good meal and the place was great. It is private Seating once you are into the restaurant. We had papaya juice, which was great and two burgers that were good also. The serve was great.

The restaurant is located near the Plaza de Armas, next to the room (cuarto del rescate) where the Inca leader Atahualpa Yupanki was confined to prison by the Spanish mercenary Pizarro.
The menu plates are tasty and fairly uncommon. While most of the restaurants offer the all-purpose fried chicken or chicken soup, we had a pumpkin soup and "lomo saltado" served with rice and lentils. The chef gladly adviced us on the food according to our taste and our regime.
The place is pleasant and the servers are effective and very friendly. Last but not least, I forgot my cameras at the restaurant after lunch and recovered the whole equipment many hours later. Very many thanks!

Comida típica criolla - Regional -Internacional.
We went to Las Tullpas feeling very hungry at around 5pm and the restaurant was empty. We ordered two dishes and one of them (mine) was not available. After having watched the unimpressive waiter and activity (or lack of it) in the kitchen I decided that I did not want to eat there after all and asked my husband if he wanted to go somewhere else, but as he was starving he decided to stay. He ordered a "green soup", which was served surprisingly pretty quickly. Unfortunately it was not good at all, flavorless, just very watery, and full of eggshells. My husband, not wanting to make a fuss, ate the soup nonetheless but decided to tell the waiter about the eggshells so that the same would't happen to other customers. And the waiter just laughed, didn't apologize or anything, merely laughed. Well that is what I would consider awful customer service.
The only positive thing was that my dish was not available and that I ended up not eating here! Don't go!

Modern Peruvian cuisine focused on local produce
Very average food although bills itself as something special. Maybe this is all that Cajamarca can offer at this point. My main objection is that I ordered a dish special which specified Artichoke hearts as an ingredient. Served without and no mention. I asked, and...MoreEstimate mlgb2 Thank you for the review, we are sorry you we didnt exceed your expectations, we work hard everuday to offer the best service and gastronomy in the city. Kind regards,

We have lived in Cajamarca for a year now, and Pez Loco has been our favourite local restaurant. in November 6 of us went and dined on BBQ Prawns, Lomo fino (best steak) skewers and chips, the best ceviche in town, BBQ chicken and two great rice dishes with drinks for 160 sols. About us$55! It is a help if you speak spanish or are not afraid to pointto what is on teh otehr tables. We have never been disappointed!
The trick is to get in early as it fills up later and can get noisy. when you have done it is half a block away from the Paza de Armes (main square) so you can walk off the dinner or just sit and watch the locals doing their evening thing!
