Brive is a stop-off point on the way south to the Pyrenees. We knew the Cremaillere years ago but this time it had been refurbished by new owners. Interior a bit stark and modern but it seemed a better bet than nearby restaurants. We stuck to the prix fixe menu and were delighted to find that this did not mean a diminution in quality or imagination. I am a diabetic but when I asked for fruit instead of a sugar-containing dessert it was provided at no extra cost and it was properly prepared with some expensive ingredients. The whole meal very good value for the quality.

We had the tasting menu and agreed that it was a truly delightful experience. The restaurant is small and decorated in an unfussy elegant way. The service was charming, friendly and impeccable. The food was imaginative, thoughtfully presented and, most importantly, delicious. While not cheap it was worth every penny. We hope to return very soon.

Went to this restaurant for the first time when saying in Brive. Surprised to find they had no gin! The food was very good but long waits between courses. We had to go to the till to finally get the bill. Shame the service was so poor.

We stayed in a local B&B hotel and scoured the internet for a good restaurant. Needless to say, we read trip advisor and found this one. We were expecting so much and got it!
The food, service, ambience and menu choices were perfect. The staff did not speak English, but then why should they, but we were able to be understood and items were translated using what little French we knew. All in all a great little restaurant, pity it isn't closer to where I live in Portugal, as we would be in there every week. By the way the Heineken is 1Euro cheaper than the tsing Tsao beer which was 4.00 Euros a bottle.
The review of the restaurant was very good and we are pleased to have followed the recommendation. If in town go there!

We celebrated my birthday in this restaurant on Tuesday evening and it was fabulous. It has a lovely courtyard outside- ideal on a hot evening- and the food was just delicious and so well presented and original and great value for three courses for less than 30 euros. The service was very warm and very efficient too. We enjoyed it so much we went back the following evening and had an equally super meal.

We have had a delightful simple lunch with bistrot formula, plat and dessert or entrée and plat, at this very nice restaurant. We sat outdoor enjoying a grat Sunshine in early November. Good steak served with tagliatelle au beurre and a nice pudding for Euro 12,00 was a terrific value for money. Bon appetit.

Went for lunch after shopping at the wonderful Saturday market. We had the speciality ham, delicious fish of the day and an assortment of sweets. As a coeliac sufferer I need gluten free food. The chef came to check on our requirements and adapted his recipe accordingly. I was able to enjoy an excellent meal without the fear of being very ill afterwards. A great restaurant.

First impressions of this restaurant is great. Lovely decour, great table layouts. The service seemed friendly enough. Then things started to go wrong. We were offered their "trademark" Mojitos, only to be informed that they had run out of mint. Punch, and some wine ordered instead.
When the starters of salad with ham arrived, we had to remind them about the wine, it was dumped on the table by a sullen waitress who continued to treat us all through the lunch as if we were a real inconvience. The salad itself was, at best, forgettable with, I am sure, a bottled vinaigrette.
My main course of steak with pasta was simply awful. In a region of France that produces some of the best beef anywhere, mine was flavourless and a little tough. The pasta was very overcooked, completely lacked seasoning, and only tasted of flour. It was served with exactly the same salad and dressing as the starter. At one point, I had to ask the waitress to stop the kitchen staff smoking right outside the window where I was sitting, as all I could taste and smell was their smoke. In retrospect, that at least provided some flavour!
Dessert was a packet "creme anglaise" (custard) with a processed raspberry coulis.
This place is style over substance, and one to avoid. Just overall dreadful food matched by dreadful service.

No complaints at all. Food nicely done and well cooked. Good choice. Friendly staff. There's loads of restaurants in this town and I only went to this one so no comparisons it just didn't stand out that's all.

We chose this place out of its reviews here on TripAdvisor. Most of the reviews were right, the place is comfortable/cozy and service is excellent. Their menu is quite complete to taste regional food and their wine list seemed good.
Prices quite reasonable, so all in all it was a great evening in a place I'm sure will look even better in the months to come as it has terraces.
Plus, dessert was to die for!
