Leave Brussels behind via the leafy " Foret de Soigne " past Napoleons Waterloo bank and suddenly you find yourself in the open plan and bare fields of "La Wallonie" . Hidden therein one of the many dead and dilapidated villages of the region with some manicured bungalows hugging a small hamlet of old houses slowly being taken over by Ivy . In the middle of the one street village " Le Pilori " with its washed out sign . Open the door and you will enter a place with a space but welcoming decor with high end and varied Light fixtures . It is bright and colourful . More important every client , and it is an eclectic gathering , looks like a person that knows how to enjoy and appreciate good food and good wine . Better again many look like they are regulars . This is now a one star Michelin but less pretentious and less stuck up you will not find . The service is friendly , personal and attentive and very well informed . The food was superlative in all aspects . The Somelier is generous in sharing his immense know how and will not disappoint . I was adviced to go for the fish which I did and it was deserving of all accolades .

Now and than , When I nead a threat for myself, I put my bike in my car, and drive to Lembeek near the canal Brussels- Charleroi. There is enough safe parkingspace.
In a slow tempo, I bike than in the direction of Ronquières, enjoying the calm canal, the ducks, the boats. Not only the canal is interesting, but at the other side off the path, you can see how our earth was pushed up, it is of a geological interest. After a good hour, I arrive at La tour Glacéé, near La plan incliné de Ronquières. Oh, time for my treat! They have really yummy icecream, and , because I never can choose wich I shall take, I always start with the first on the list, and the next time the second one, and so on.
After that, I go for a nice walk along the old canal. There are boats where people live in, and when you walk just a little more , you a in one in the most lovely places of Wallonie : plenty of nature, birds, water splashing down...
Yeah...this weekend.....should I have some time?

Four of us discovered this marvellous restaurant during a 'monsoon' of biblical proportions!
What a find.
The hostess couldn't do enough for us and we had an evening meal which defied description. It was glorious.
We would all highly recommend this place which is tucked away on the Rue De La Station in Soignies.
Just go for it if you are in the area.

En face de la grand place.Parking aisé.
Accueil discret, restaurant vieillot mais avec un certain charme, surtout pour les personnes d'un certain âge . Les plats proposés sont bons dans l'ensemble mais il faut avoir le temps car le service est très lent.

Restaurant Gastronomique
I discovered this restaurant through an article in a Brussels Airlines magazine. Since our first visit in 2010 we have returned nearly every month. The food, wine and service have remained consistently high. The set menus are a great choice, just sit back and enjoy the delicious food. This is by far the best restaurant we have eaten at in the Mons/Soignies area.

The restaurant is located in a train wagon which is already unique in itself. The two hosts/owner are very charming and attentive and the service very fast!
There is a set menu as well as a special menu/suggestions that changes every 3 weeks. They also have a "pasta of the day".
Quality of food is excellent!
From the light curry chicken with pineapple and bananas with a side of croquettes (or rice) is a unique and wonderful blend.
Salad steak, roquette, dried tomatoes and parmesan slices.
Their sugar pie is hard to resist!
Definitely worth the visit!
Restaurant is closed on mondays and tuesdays and given the limited number of Seating available, it is always best to reserve a place!

un petit café avec à l'arrière une petite salle de restaurant (quelques tables seulement) où on vous sert des plats simples de type boulets, tartare, choucroute, .... mais de qualité à un prix très compétitif

This region still is a kind of Italian colony, as in earlier times whole villages immigrated to work in the metal industry, in the quarries etc. No wonder it is easy to find exquisite espresso coffee, and super mediterranean specialities. Magique Pizza is no exception. It is a clean venue, with a lovely wallpainting featuring La Loren and Marcello M. And a huge counter full of appetising Lasagna, Pizzas, Pasta with different sauces, even sweet Tiramisu; the locals (young and old) come continiously and take away small snacks or vast quantities!
My favourite treat are Sicilian Arancini, tasty rice balls stuffed with bolognaise meat sauce. Quite tricky to make! Do ask for the bottle of spicy oil if you like some extra fire. And I never ever miss out on their espresso! (luckily a bit bigger than the Italian thimble size cups!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch on the sunny patio. Service was friendly and the food was delicious. My husband enjoyed his lamb and I ordered a special salad which included white asparagus and thinly sliced ham. So good. But the best part of the meal was the frozen Grand Marnier soufflé which was absolutely decadent. Yum.

C'était une belle surprise, un grand choix de plats (j'ai déjà une idée pour la prochaine fois ). Sans m'avancer de trop, je suis certain que tout le monde peut y trouver son bonheur.
