A family owned and run independent Coffee Shop. Selling locally roasted fresh ground Coffee, made to order Sandwiches using locally sourced Bread and a wide selection of Cakes, Panini, Pies, Quiches & much more. We pride ourselves on giving first class service and we offer half price refills on all hot drinks all day.
The service was terrible and drinks were poor even though we were practically the only customers. It is always a bad sign when the only way to tell the difference between the flat white coffee, latte and cappuccino is 1) the shape of the mug used and 2) whether it comes with chocolate sprinkled on top. So 1980s! Their adverts boast 'Barrow's Best Independent Coffee Shop' which even if true is only because of the dearth of competition here. Enjoy your coffee or your ethics? Alas, the choice is yours.

My wife and I stayed at Abbey House Hotel on valentines weekend and enjoyed a 3 course meal at Oscar's on a Friday evening. We were both highly impressed by the service and the quality of the food. Portion sizes were very generous. Highly recommended if you are in the area or staying at the hotel.

Friday lunchtime is obviously a busy time for the Custom House, despite this we were quickly found a table and service was friendly and efficient. The food was good though the portions were a little large. We would certainly recommend this restaurant .

6 of us went to the crown for tea on Saturday night 10/3 to celebrate my 50th birthday. We ordered 4 stir fry’s - prawn szechuan , surf n turf Szechuan, beef Szechuan and beef in black bean - had rice/salt n pepper chips and salt n pepper chips/noodles with them, 1 prawn madras and 1 lasagne with chips and garlic bread. Food and service was spot on the guy that served us was so polite and friendly a credit to the pub. We also had 1 sticky toffee pud with custard and an Eton mess both were excellent. Can’t wait to go back and try some other goodies on the menu would recommend this pub 100%.

I was so, so excited to take my other half here after Reading all of the good reviews and the food was very delicious, didn't wait too long, extremely cheap for the portion size and service was OK. However I had seafood pasta and less than a couple of hours later I couldn't even keep a glass of water down, such a shame. My other half was absolutely fine and we both ate everything the same all day except dinner (though I know you can never be 100% sure) would I come back? yes! But I would not have the seafood. All of the dough etc. tasted very fresh so it was a very mixed experience I am afraid!

Because we were feeling decidedly peckish, we decided to give the all-you-can-eat Panda Garden Chinese buffet a try. We were very pleasantly surprised at the range of food offered for lunchtime, and because we arrived just as the restaurant opened, it was all piping hot. I could have returned to the fayre for a third plateful, because the diligent staff constantly replenished what remained, but by then I was feeling complete. Well worth a visit for a bargain £8.90 a head, assuming you appreciate Chinese food of course!

Here at the Duke of Edinburgh, we offer delicious quality food, sourced from local suppliers, and created for you by our dedicated team of chefs. We provide the perfect setting, seven days a week, for a relaxing meal with friends, family or colleagues.
I had seen so many reviews and advertisements for the Duke’s French nights that I really wanted to try it. We entered the hotel along with a group of Latvian workers in high vis jackets who were staying there. The bar is spacious and extremely well stocked with beer and spirits and we had a drink while waiting. The staff were attentive and helpful and we were soon led down to the basement restaurant.
The decor was a strange mix of fake industrial and old fashioned local photos. More helpful staff soon took our order - we both had onion soup followed by sous vide bavette of beef, both cooked well and very tasty. The two courses were accompanied by a glass of wine all for £15 - great value. The chocolate pudding (extra £4.50) was also delicious.
Overall, we were pleased we had tried the French night and there were few hesitations, maybe the lack of choice (only three main courses).
