Met last night for our annual family get together. This year we chose the New Sarum Family Diner. Typical Canadian menu with lots of choices including fish, fowl and beef. I had their New York style Reuben with onion rings and homemade slaw. My wife had a hot chicken Sandwich which she claimed to be excellent. Our bill for the two of us was $50 which included drinks. Service was top drawer, we're coming back again.

The tearoom began in 1978 as a celebration of 30 years in business for Pinecroft. Its namesake is a large frog carved from stone some 125 years ago, now green with moss and age. The green frog resides peacefully beside the tumble way. In earlier times, in St. Thomas, it was used as a stand for mounting horses and entering carriages. It is now the caretaker of our pond. The tearoom began by serving tea, muffins and homemade bread. Now home cooked country lunches are specialties of the tearoom. Fresh baked bread and rolls, soups, salads, sandwiches and luncheon features with croissants, crepes and patty shells fill the menu. Throughout the year various evening meals are presented at Thanksgiving and Christmas or by special appointment. Now licensed under the AGCO.
Out of the way, but well worth the visit, not only for food, pottery and the ambiance. First the food: Daily specials offered as well as interesting menu choices. Many include an extra large, home made tasty bun. Servings are ample, but hopefully will leave space for sampling one of the interesting dessert offerings. Open until approximately 3:30 p.m. The pottery: hand made pottery in a variety of shapes, colours and styles are featured exclusively from the pottery barn which is situated on the other side of the water lily pond from the the restaurant (tea room). It's a pleasant walk to view pottery being made and when on your stroll, don't miss the green frog tucked into the woods beside the road. The ambiance: rustic log building with interior gift shop and dining area whose walls and decor exude warmth and charm with a variety of artifacts. The garden rooms looking out into the woodlands and over the pond is preferred, but anywhere the Seating is comfortable. In good weather there is an outdoor eating area under umbrellas which is most enjoyable. Service is friendly and efficient. Well worth repeat visits.

Our car club has monthly meetings that take us to new or different eateries. This month, it was Ruby's Cookhouses' turn.
We had been there before and it was added to our "must do this one again" list. This time, eleven people showed up and were seated directly.
None of us were disappointed and no one went home hungry.
They have Greek and North American foods as well as seven dinner specialties. Also on the menu are stir fried foods, pastas, soups & salads, sandwiches, home-made burgers, wraps, chicken fingers, ribs, seafood and a seniors menu.
The service was second to none. Our server for the night was Linda. She was very attentive and made sure that everyone's needs were filled as quickly as possible. She also had a very positive attitude and wonderful sense of humour. (You know, the kind of person you would like to know away from her work)
The orders were taken and the food arrived quickly. Nothing sitting under a heat lamp here. The salads were fresh and the meats prepared exactly to the customer's order.
I have read reviews about Ruby's that mention noise. There was no such problem with our visit. We were able to chat amongst ourselves while we waited for the food without needing to shout.
Ruby's is not like taking a trip to the Ritz, but nor is it a 'burger joint'. The setting was clean and well cared for.
If you are hungry and in need of some good food at a sensible price, do yourself a favour and stop in at Ruby's. I know our club will be returning again.

every time we visit here, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, we receive exceptional food, dive into the non-resistant desserts and find the owner putting on a comedy night, or sing-song night of entertainment, and etc. a real gem in an unsuspecting place with great staff and cooks.

Since discovering Spicer's several years ago and the baked good treats that are a daily staple for this bakery, we have been big fans...driving from London to Aylmer every few weeks to satisfy our craving. The chocolate iced donuts take me right back to my childhood and there is simply not another place that can compare. The maple/bacon craze came and Spicer's again rose to the top by using lots and lots of home-made bacon bits on top of their tasty maple icing. Easy to wax poetic over the delicious sweet treats but their breads are also astonishingly delicious. The egg loaf also comes in dinner rolls making for perfect rounds when serving French Toast at home. The best and biggest news, though, is the fact that just this summer they have opened a deli next door and it is a day-tripper's delight. My first taste came as a total surprise because my hubby went to Spicer's for treats and came back with lunch. We drove to the fair grounds, parked in the shade of a huge tree and munched on still warm corned beef sandwiches! Our second visit was planned and the pictures speak for themselves....a Sandwich ( we shared 1/2 Turkey and ham), slice of pickle, side salad, fruit cup, cutlery and napking...all packed in a box....delightful and very, very tasty. They are generous with the meat and both sides (macaroni and potato salads) were yummy. A new favourite has been found...DAY TRIPPERS TAKE NOTE.

Very pleasant restaurant and very good homemade food. It was first time eating here; it came highly recommended by friends and I was not disappointed. In another review people said they were prejudiced against. I think the prejudice is in their minds! I had also read it took very long for the food to come to your table. This was not the case when we went. We were a table of 6 and received our food in reasonable time especially since most of it is homemade. We all had something different and everyone enjoyed their food. I found the prices to be average. I will definitely return

If you like fast food tacos this is the best around, right off Highway 3 one mile west of Aylmer. The trailer is clean and the food is fresh and tasty. Outside picnic tables with canaopy only. Close during winter months.
