We had dinner once at "Ego 2" when we were in Veliko Tarnovo last time. It was a very good choice - delicious food, good service and reasonable prices. The view of Yantra River and the Monument of Asenevtsi is stunning too, if you are lucky enough to get a table close to the panoramic windows in the bottom of the restaurant (we were :)). The menu is quite extensive with many options beside pizza, with photos of the dishes. They also have several dishes cooked "sous vide", one of which my wife tried (pork tenderloin with mushrooms and vegetables), but we found the regular dishes tastier. We were there on Saturday and the place was full, so better make a reservation.

We were staying here for 4 nights.......
The first time we ate here I had fried chicken livers & onions. YUM. Brought back childhood memories. Hubby had a casserole that he adored.
2nd time: a soup lunch. I had chicken soup and he had a cold yogurt soup.We were happy campers.
3rd time: We shared a pork dish.
Service was always attentive. Daniel was a 'stitch" ....and prices SO reasonable.
Even if you aren't staying here.............DO GO TO THE RESTAURANT!

Stratilat is in the middle of this delightful pedestrian shopping area in Veliko Tarnovo. Almost every house is a store or boutique. There are a few cafes and restaurants too, mingling with art galleries. Coffee at Stratilat is good, as a re the pastries. Service is slow, although friendly. prices are moderate.

The Hadji Nikoli Inn in Veliko Tarnovo is one of the most valuable specimen of the late Renaissance architecture in Bulgaria. It was built in 1858 and is declared a national antique and cultural monument of national significance. Following a long restoration the Hadji Nikoli Inn now comprises of a restaurant with differently decorated lounges, a beautiful garden, wine-bar with a shop, museum and Art gallery.
This traditional restaurant was completed in 1858 and has been one of the more popular dining destinations in the city. Tastefully decorated, it offers several dining areas and a great selection of food. The main restaurant offers soups, cold and hot appetizersm vegetarian dishes as well as meats of all sorts, mostly based on International classics. There is a separate "gourmet" menu, for the more selective customers. The cafe also offers lighter fare, as well as excellent coffee and pastries.

We popped in here while waiting for the rest of our group to finish at the Fortress. It's right at the bottom of the hill to the Fortress across from the ticket office. The server was surly, but the dessert was incredible. It was called the Cardinal, and was round scoops of chocolate mascarpone yumminess. Be sure to sit when you walk in. Don't try to go to the counter, or they will insist very rudely that you take a seat. Eventually I got a smile out of the server but only a small one.

Scenic hilly ancient town at base of pedestrian walk.
I stayed here for one night during a coach tour of Eastern Europe. The hotel was at the top of the hill and about 5/10 minutes walk from the castle. The views on the evening and morning were stunning right over the valley below. The room was equipped with the necessary amenities and had bathrobes provided - always a plus point. The breakfast was plentiful with a range of local produce including butter bean stew! The shop in the hotel is very expensive.

Restaurant „Slavianska dusha“ – Veliko Tarnovo has 2 halls with 35 seats in total. It offers a wide variety of salads speciality dishes and traditional Bulgarian cuisine, prepared by a professional chef with experience abroad. For group visits we offer a package of breakfast, lunch and dinner which are chosen in advance. The tavern offers food and drinks in the rooms (room service). You can enjoy the peace and the comfort after a walk around the Old Tarnovo.
We went there Saturday October 20, 2012. The restaurant was closed without warning (no signs on the door), obviously because of some cooking and chef festival in the city. We then dined at Hadji Nikoli Inn, a five-minute walk away which was just great. Mind wearing high heels, though, they don't mix well with cobble stones.
