The food here is wonderful! Large selection of dishes, for all courses, all beautifully cooked and presented. The menu is imaginative, has good vegetarian choices and everything tastes good. Portions are a perfect size, you don't go away feeling hungry, nor do you feel uncomfortably full. Perfect place to eat.

Honestly I could not fault anything about this beautiful little pub. The landlady is lovely, always smiling and making sure everything is spot on. We came here on a Sunday whilst on holiday and had a Sunday dinner which was huge, tasty and piping hot. We enjoyed it so much we came back to try the evening meals, which were just as delightful. And the size of the children's meals to, just wow!
If your in the area in need of some food or just a quick drink, this place is ideal.
Keep up the good work!

Arron & Carolyn welcome you to the New Inn at Hoff, serving traditional English food, wines & cask ales.
Stopped of for a couple of drinks after a walk to Rutter force waterfall. Friendly welcome by the landlord and lady. Dog friendly, good chat with landlord about places to visit. Didn't eat on this occasion but looking at reviews worth a visit.
Would recommend this inn.

Staying in Appleby for two nights, we scoured Trip Advisor for restaurant reviews and thankfully chose the Ashiana with its pristine white fabric tablecloths and napkins. It's a small restaurant but we managed to get a table for two as a walk-in. I'd advise booking.
The food was delicious - a shared onion bhaji turned out to be three large balls of light, crisp vegetable and, having scoffed poppadums to start with, we were well on the way to being full!
I chose the Tandoori Special - a huge sizzling platter of meats, prawn and chunks of seared vegetable with a sticky, tangy sauce plus naan - half of which I had to bring home. The man stayed on piste with prawn madras and mushroom pilau.
The staff were attentive and friendly. The bill, including, two pints of Cobra beer and two soft drinks (I was driving...) was a surprisingly low £45 for what was a sumptuous spread.
I only wish the Ashiana wasn't so far from home.

The Midland is a free house with three hand-drawn pumps offering a selection of local award-winning beers, ales, traditional ciders and perrys. Cumbrians are fond of their pub food and our menu includes some of the all-time favourites: local butcher's Cumberland sausage in a giant Yorkshire pudding, lasagna made with best minced steak & red wine, ham & eggs or steak & ale pie. The Midland is known for its specialty dishes too. Daily specials can include a creamy Italian risotto, a range of Mediterranean treats in the tapas style menu, a Thai curry and there's always a selection of vegetarian specials. We aim to use as many locally-produced ingredients and make as many of our dishes on site as possible. We use Appleby Creamery's award-winning cheeses in our specialty dishes or you can have a selection as a light meal or dessert.
We have visited this pub on several occasions both for lunch and evening meals. Good steady pub food, nothing to blow your socks off but acceptable. Good choice of real ales, though pricey considering it's a free house. A safe choice.

A traditional country village pub serving home cooked pub food on certain days each week. Please phone to reserve a table. Ever changing cask ales from local micro Breweries always available.
We were staying at a cottage local to the pub and decided to have a walk to this pub. Not knowing how long it would take we arrived before opening. Having taken a seat outside preparing for a wait the owners came outside and welcomed us in early. A couple of nice pints at reasonable prices followed whilst the owners chatted to us and even offered to start the log fire if we wanted. We will definitely be back and having viewed the food have booked a table for Friday.
So if you want a good pint, in a nice atmosphere and a warm welcome I’d head here.

On our way home from Scotland on the A66 we consulted Trip Advisor for restaurants in the Appleby area and based on recent reviews we headed for The New Inn in Brompton.
Lovely traditional country pub, open fires, stone flagged floors, welcoming friendly staff, great classic food menu Including suet pudding, scampi, steaks and my choice . . lamb shank followed by an amazing toffee apple bead & butter pudding with custard.
All this plus locally brewed Tirril ales makes for a perfect little pub, well worth a visit.

Ideally situated for those plodding along the Pennine Way or similar in the area, the Post Box Pantry offers traditional home cooked food in a comfortable setting. There is a daily specials board from which I ordered the cheeseburger served with salad. Typically, the menu offers toasties, jacket potatoes and such and there is a good variety of drinks on offer too. On a pleasant day, there is outdoor Seating to relax looking out towards the fells and the rest of pretty Dufton village. Prices are very reasonable and the service is good. Would recommend.
