Our first stop after leaving the cruise ship was the village of Veere. This had once been an important port especially for wool brought in from Scotland. There were merchants' and guild houses. We had tea and waffles at Bliek Eten & Drinken. It was in a pleasant spot where you could sit outside. Waffles were ok, so I don't know why it has a low TA rating.

I was not impressed by the museum, with fishes in Aquariums and a stuffed moonfish. The bit of history of Zeeland's towns that are lost to the sea is interesting, but the information may as well be looked up on the internet. The outdoors part goes around the neighbouring castle, so that gives some nice views. There is a small wooden fort on a hill, a motte, which is quite nice.

Veere is a beautiful little town (large village?) and was a delightful stop in a busy week. We loved its beautiful setting, quiet streets and lovely buildings. But this one is such a waste of space. Weird modern 'art' scattered thinly in a sparse building. What the mummified cat in a glass case was for escapes me. This is not a museum as it is almost devoid of artifacts. Probably OK for its use as a concert venue but not worth visiting!

This museum looks exquisite from the outside, and its contents are not disappointing. A large part of the exhibition is dedicated to paintings made by the many artists who lived in Veere. Some original historic items are present, such as statues which used to decorate the facade of the town hall. The Scottish connection is explained, and one room is furnished in old-fashioned style. Together with the town hall, well worth a visit. As a whole, Veere is one of the nicest towns to visit in the Netherlands, in my opinion. Don't forget to visit the Great Church, with its mummified cat and the splendid views over the environment.

Great architecture. No longer used as a church, now used as a concert hall. €2.50 to get in. Not a great deal inside apart from the building itself. What makes this attraction is the 52 metre stone spiral stairway to the roof which as the best view of Veere hands down. Truely spectacular.

There is little left of the church's interior. The building served many purposes including a hospital, a stable for horses. In fact there is nothing more than the original walls. A long climb of the tower offers a fantastic Panorama.
The building is used for art Exhibitions and Concerts.

We enjoyed this peaceful historic town wich today has become sleepy tourist village. The VVV gave useful information and there was a touristy summer-market selling fresh produce and fish.

RUST !
