Gore probably isn't most peoples destination, rather than an "en route to" place. Nevertheless, it's well worth a few hours break in your journey to experience the local history. Top of the list should be Hokonui Moonshine museum, lots and lots of information on Scots doing what they do best, producing whisky. You even get a shot at the end of the tour, but don't get too excited...

The Gore Aquatic Centre can be found in the Gore Multisports Complex, alongside the MLT Event Centre and the indoor Ice-Skating Rink. The Acquatic centre encompasses an eight-lane 25m main pool, a leisure pool (including a toddler's pool, rain drop, water Fountains, walk-in beach area, bubble pit & sprays), a hydrotherapy pool as well as a wide variety of inflatables and regular events.
I have recently started swimming here for personal fitness while my husband and I are staying in the area on working holiday. The Multisport complex is very well kept and the pool is always clean and the water is warm. There is a lap pool on one side and a recreation pool on the other that often has big inflatables for the kids, and families really seem to love using it. If you need to borrow a kick board or pull buoy they have plenty to borrow for your swim. Very friendly staff and clean changing rooms as well. I bought a small package of 10 swims and will buy another 10 once I use these up. The sports complex has much more than just the pool, but I haven't had the chance to explore more of it. There is also an ice skating rink that is temporarily closed, but we are excited to hopefully check that out soon!

At Bannerman Park, you can find extensive plantings of rhododendrons, conifers, native ferns, daffodils, peonies, daylilies, willows, oaks and silver birches to name a few, intertwined with streams, ponds and a deer park.
I was visiting Gore with my children and grandchildren and we walked though Bannerman Park. It is totally free, the trees and flowers are very pretty and the deer were wonderful, we took apples and fed the large deer, especially the large stag they have,...MoreThanks, Dorothy R, for such great review! Located 11km from Gore, near the Croydon Bush Scenic Reserve and on the lower slopes of the Hokonui Hills, Dolamore Park offers something for everyone. Dolamore Park is home to a variety of exotic plant, fresh water, and native bird species. You can also find camping, picnic and BBQ facilities, walking and mountain biking tracks through the forest, an education centre and a playground.
The well surfaced and clearly marked short trails from the play area are superb for exploring the ancient native forest . The dense canopy and trees covered with epiphytes are a rare insight into the old NZ.Hi 603Jim, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the travel community. We're glad you enjoyed what Dolamore Park has to offer. Many thanks, GoreNZ

One of the finest 18 hole Golf courses in the lower South Island - Excellent Golf all year-round at a reasonable price. The Gore Golf Club was established in 1904, and moved to the present Croydon links in 1931. The 18 hole parkland course is relatively flat, and only 3km from the centre of Gore.
